I have a bad hard drive on my Panasonic DMR E80H. It keeps freezing when I try to use the hard drive. The DVD drive works fine. I puchased a new Maxtor hard drive, but keeps coming up with an error message, and will not format. I don't know what I,m doing wrong, any help would be much appreciated.
DMR-E80H Hard drive problem seems to pretty common. My drive started making the famaous kerchunk noise tonight. After disassembly I see the drive is a ATA133 Maxtor drive....are you sure that you replaced it with the correct drive? I may contact Maxtor and try to get an RMA since the drive is only 3yrs old.

I don't have a solution but I am having the same problem (same model DMR-E80H). It will read finalized dvds but won't recognize or play blank or non-finalized dvds. About a year ago I had to replace the hard drive . . . I'm just assuming that the dvd recorder is just slowly breaking down and will need some kind of repair of certain components. (I think we bought it new in 2003/2004?)
Hey there, am worried about your data. Try a genius technician around you or else you're at risk losing it all. Actually, those two (DVD and HD) can mean to frustrate. I guess you will opt for online backup so as to guard your vital stuff online. Personally, backing up is my daily bread at www.safecopybackup.com. Hard drive crashed but I a sure u my data was safely retrieved. woooooow! Give it a chance, u'll never look back.
I have to agree with XELIAM regarding finishing the disk, under the DVD "FUNCTIONS" selection from the remote. I also use the SLYSOFT products to transfer my videos to what ever other mode of video I wish to have, whether iPOD (MP4), or DIVX (AVI) or loads of other options. Slysoft makes a GREAT product
