Question about Toshiba SD-V392 DVD Player/VCR
My dvd/vcr combo player freezes often while watching newly rented or purchased dvds. I have several old dvd movies including the Lord of the ring (3-4 hours)that I can play with no problem. but It seems like new dvds are having issues. I have used laser lens cleaners CD and dvd disc cleaners with no luck. thanks
CD and dvd disc cleaners will not solve the problem, a deeper and delicate cleaning procedure by cleaning the lens manually with an cotton swab is needed...
Although the quality of newer discs is to be discussed.

This is a common problem on CD and DVD players.
Altini is correct to a point. You can try taking the top case off, removing the DVD drive and taking the top off of the drive. Then use a q-tip on the laser lense. I use a little squirt of windex on the q-tip. Gently clean the lense even if it doesn't look dirty. Make sure you very gently work the lense up and down through it's travel. This will make sure no dust or dirt is interfering with the lense focusing.
Reassemble and try your movies again. This is a 50 50 proposition. If you still have the same problem, the mechanism has likely gone bad. Time for a new DVD player.

I have a toshiba lap top - the entire mother board was replaced the first year - I have 4 rather useless USB ports and I have had a toshiba DVD player too that didn't last either . I am done with Toshiba. Very poor electronics in my view- not durable period.
