Can battery compartment be repaired when tabs are broken off which hold lid down?

possibly...if it is the body where the tabs are broken off the manufacturer (Olympus) might be able to replace the body shell. I'd check with them.

You may order a replacement battery cover (the whole cover, not just the latch) in a choice of colors here.

Battery cover latch broken , small lugs to hold cover in place next to the well. Is there a battery compartment available to replace it?

I've tried to find the parts on the internet, but had no luck. Here's what I would do in that case...you can get an "as-is" camera on ebay for anywhere from $11 to maybe $25, depending on how the bid goes. Just make sure that camera has a good battery cover- you can query the seller about that. Then, you can salvage the good battery cover. You will have to take the camera apart, but once you take the bad one apart, you'll understand how it fits together and be able to reassemble it easier. Other than that, your options are repair, and I'm not sure how much a shop would charge you, but often it's just better to buy a new camera, in that case. That's about all I can think of, good luck!

I have a Fuji FinePix S5000 and the battery door catches (on the body of the camera) have broken off. Replace complete body assy??? I am sure mine is not the only one. any help appreciated.

I had this problem also (see below).

After getting poor results with the duct tape solution, I discovered another work-around. This should work whether it is chipped lugs on the door or on the body.

Firstly I used an old camera flash bracket that screws into the tripod socket, and this holds the battery door in place quite securely. However it was too long, so I cut and filed a piece of aluminium 25mm (1") wide by 2.5mm thick to the right length (around 100mm/4") and shape, and made a hole for the bracket screw.

End result is not exactly like new, but more functional than the duct tape and does not further damage the actual camera:

Broken battery compartment door switch

The switch is a micro switch that is depressed(and not sad :)) by a plastic tag moulded on the battery cover. Once the cover is moved into position and closed, the tag presses on the micro switch closing the switch and thus removing the error message. As with any switch, a switch is simply open or closed, Open = high resistance or O/L, while closed = 0 ohms reistance. You can use a small wire to overcome the switch by soldering the wire to both tags of the switch so it is permenantly 0 ohms. This will send a message to the microprocessor that cover is closed and camera ready for use. Hope this helps.

Replacement Battery Cover Assembly

If you're handy, you can replace it in about 3 minutes. Don't attempt it unless you're willing to risk tearing a thin flexible circuit under the rear cover. Looking at the camera from the rear, remove the screws on the right hand side ( 2 ? ) then the screws across the bottom - open the card door, remove the card, and wedge a knife blade between the front and rear cover halves - the card door will be loose with an attached spring coming free. No need to remove the rear housing completely, just enough to expose the tracks for the battery cover hinge. Remove the old door, noting the position of the opening spring at the hinge, by angling one hinge out first. Insert the new battery cover and the card door in reverse order.
