Question about Projection Televisions

Problem is with a Sony KP-46WT510. I have the factory service manual. Originally it had no luminance and that was diagnosed as a defective "D" board, replace the board or replace the two circuit modules (IC8001 and IC 8002). I replaced the ICs with the same part numbers STK392-560 from BIC, not Sony. I had trouble in removing the high voltage leads from the fly back transformer (T8005) following the manual’s instruction to “twist, etc.” After I pulled one of the leads (thinner) from its tower, I cut the thicker one. Later I wasn’t sure which tower the pulled lead went into but I thought the dust marks showed the right one. I couldn’t find any markings shown by the circuit diagram (11, MV and HV) on the fly back transformer towers. After having placed conductive glue on the exposed lead, I pushed it as far as it would go into the tower and then soldered the other (thicker) leads together with some heat shrink tubing bridging the gap. The problem now is that circuit board D appears to be working because I get sparking noises from sparks (jumping between one of the rear projection tubes and its mounting frame?) but no illumination. I suspect that the voltage ground from the fly back transformer is misconnected. The other possibilities are that I need to replace the D board (hopefully the fly back transformer comes with high voltage leads attached) or there are more problems with this set.

Well, I seem to have mixed up old technology (the ICs are the fly back transformer!) and T8005 is a combined HV rectifier and transformer. Before I buy a new D board for >$130, I'm going to go back and look at the set and perhaps move the wire I reinstalled to a different tower on T8005.

Try using this 400 Watt Metal Halide bulb try soldering it on the pcb and see if u are getting the illuminiation and if u are getting that ... that means that the pcb and the bridge is functional and the voltage capacitors are fine ... if u want u can use the same 400watt bulb for the projector but u will have to do some modifications on the chassis ... other than that if not than you will have to get a similar led tourch and break it down as a work around

What's your problem?Hi, I have a Sony projection TV KP-46WT510 theres no picture or sound, but it still turns on and I can see the the on screen menu. When I turn it on the led blinks four times

You can Google and find the service manual which will explain what the 4 blinks means.

If you have the Sony remote with the set off:

Display, 5, Volume down, Power

If the set has it you will see a box appear on screen with a list of items--all should have a zero to the right of each---one with a number indicates the number of times that error has been detected.

Let me know if you have questions or cannot find what the four means and I will research it.

6 bliks on sony kp-46wt510

KP46WT510 Shutdown 6 Blinks. 6 Blinks = Low B+ OCP/OVP
SOLUTION: Replaced Flyback transformer. It had no rings on the ringer test.
HQ
Comments: Any load on the B+ line can cause 6 Blinks.
Example: If the 200v line is loaded down will cause a drop in B+ due to bright picture current demand.
