I have a Dell PE2900 which is not starting. The (single) power supply has a solid green light when plugged in. When I press the on/off button, it turns green, but nothing happens; no post, no fans, no spin...

This doesnt' look like the motherboard right away. First I would try the unit with another power supply. Using a power supply tester may let you know that the unit can give power or turn on but does nto mean the PSU is able to work with a load.

Many time dell will still have the lights even though the PSU is bad. On the back of the unit when you hit the power button. There should be status messages etc that can tell you if the unit detects issues.

This manual: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pe2900/en/hom/html/about.htm#wp1072621

will help you. Pay attention to the Power Indicator Codes and LCD Status Messages sections.

LaCie d2 Quadra is inert: service/repair or buy new one?

Check with LaCie's support site at http://www.lacie.com/us/support/ and it's a good idea that you write down the serial number of your external disk.

X 346 powers on, then shuts down - no HDD installed

Even without the harddrive, you should be able to see the server power up with Bios/Memory test. It should be able to indicate to you that no drive found. In addition, you should be able to press F1 or F2 to enter into system setup.....hope this help

At power connection, the green diode on board is

Hello I hope you will consider this answer as it IS the most probable reason for what you are experiencing.

I need some ratings on here so how about it?

Here's your answer: the green led light will always light provided there is power to the board from power supply. The problem you are having is indicative of the headers. Look at your headers lableled "power reset", hdd, spkr, etc... real small pins called berg pins. Appears as though there is a faulty connection to the "reset" header. This would cause your problem.

Lacie ED mini v2 won't start up.

I had the same problem twice, but it was the power adapters each time that were causing the problem. It wasn't the unit itself. Lacie replaced the power adapters and it worked fine.

No access to the disk, same clicking sound + constant light

It may not be getting enough power. Is there an external power supply you can plug in or another USB connector that can be plugged in to another port?

Power cord buzzes and MACPro does not recognize it

This is a fault in the power supply itself, I have just repaired one of these power supplies successfully.
The fault is caused by the failure of the filter capacitors on the 12V supply rail, and if the power supply is left connected to the mains supply (In our case 240V 50Hz) without the drive connected as a load, the unloaded output voltage will exceed the voltage rating of the capacitors, causing their failure. The failed capacitors had very obvious bulges at the top, and one was beginning to leak onto the PCB.

The filter capacitors on the 12V supply rail are rated at 16V, and the cpacitors on the 5V rail are rated at 10V, and when operated without a load, the 12V rail rises to approximately 19V, and the 5V rail rises to approximately 8V. All output filter capacitors are 1000uF, and 105deg C temperature rated.

I repaired my power supply by replacing all of the filter capacitors on the DC low voltage output rails with 1000uF 25V capacitors. Be careful to only fit the 105 deg C rated caps, as they operate at elevated temperatures in an enclosed environment with no ventillation to cool the power supply.
To ensure that the repair was reliable, I also replaced the filter capacitor on the 5V rail with the same 1000uF 25V, even though that capacitor showed no immediate signs of failure.

When reassembling the power supply, care must be taken to ensure that parts like the ferrite cored transformer are thermally bonded to the aluminium heatsink with a smear of heatsink compound.
When the power supply was first powered up following repair, everything was normal, the green power LED came on as usual, the supply outputs both came up OK, and the unit was not making any buzzing sounds, completely silent. The HDD now operated as normal when once again powered from this power supply.

This was the fix for my particular LaCie power supply model ACU057A-0512, and the supply once again works normally.

If the green light on your LaCie power supply does not light, you likely have a bad power supply. You can buy a new one from LaCie. If you are purchasing a new power supply from LaCie ask for the higher wattage unit. LaCie upgraded this a while back.

It is protecting you and itself with high probability.
Power supplies in modern electronic devices are designed to cycle if there is a fault in circuitry they are servicing and because of the design, also will not turn on completely if they are failing.

The older style of power supply was 'dumb' and unable to do this so could cause fires if the failure wasn't teh 'right' kind to blow the main fuse.

I agree with the manual; this is a job for a tech.
