Re: sound card problem
Did you reinstall the sound card physycally on the main board or did you install new drivers?
You need to check the device manager (start-settings-control panel-system-select " hardware" tab at top, then click on device manager)
If you have your sound card listed in its category (sound, video and game controllers) or listed in the "other" category and it has a yellow ! next to it, you must right click on it and hit uninstall. one of those will cause the computer not to even look for the sound card for install because the computer thinks it's already installed , even if its wrong.
so if you see one of these, expand the + to see the device , then right click on it and select uninstall .
then procede to load the new driver. restart

Try reinstalling the audio driver.
You can download the audio and device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEBsupport/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windowsdrivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download thedrivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html
Go to your CONTROL PANEL
then select SYSTEM
then select DEVICE MANAGER
This page will list all your computer's devices.
Locate your sound card
*a yellow triangle indicates errors*
Double click on your sound card, this will bring up another window
First tab GENERAL shows if device is working properly
Click on DRIVER to update/check on drivers, if you need drivers, it will search and locate them for you.
Have you checked your speaker connections? Have you checked the main volume control to make sure it is turned up? How about the volume for the media player you're using? If all these checks out as ok, you may need to completely uninstall your sound card drivers, and then go to the manufacturers website that made your sound card and download and install the latest drivers.
What I suggest to you is go control panel click sounds and audio devices the speaker volume is gray out. Go on line realtek.com choose ac97 audio driver and download. install the driver and make sure that the speaker are all plugin before start playing music. email me firstname.lastname@example.org, if this procedure didn't work for you.
This usually occurs because of corrupted drivers .. you should completely
uninstall the sound card driver, reboot and let windows detect the card and if
it's not plug n play ... install the driver manually, not automatically. If this is a Dell computer, go to support, downloads and driver and put in your service code number, this will help you to select the proper drivers for your audio device. good luck, please leave rating. thank you
If you just downloaded the Audio driver from EMachines site for that model....when you installed it...there should have been a notice about putting a folder in drive C stating that the installer will give you 2 folders, 1 for new driver and 1 for default driver.....Try and see if there is such a folder in your drive C directory and find a Driver folder...should be near top of directory. The actual exe install icon will be in the Audio driver folder.
If all is well with your onboard audio this may be the problem.....but how did the sound stop working in the first place.......could be bad.
If bad or cant fix...I would just put in a aftermarket sound card in one of the pci slots.
i guess the question is not very clear to me .. but off what i can figure out, in your desktop 1) sound doesnt come 2) some problem with your cd from (kindly elaborate) for the sound card there can several reasons for the sound not coming 1) Drivers not installed properly 2) you might have installed wrong drivers 3) (Happens in really old comps)if u have moved the cpu cabinet a lot lately, sound card could have been displaced from its socket, in such a case just take out the sound card clean it once and put it back again Most of the times it is the driver which is not getting loaded properly, trying opening windows in safe mode, if the problem persists try reinstalling the driver. and as per the CD rom problem kindly elaborate.. Cheers Kushal
