Audio input jack

What about the audio input jack? Is it working or do you not know where it is? On a laptop, normally it's the Microphone Jack. Some laptop will have built in microphones.

Audio jack seems to have short

Hello,

There is probably a broken solder where the audio jack connects to the mainboard. If you are in warranty, then contact HP and they will fix it free of charge. If not, then pick up a usb sound card. They are cheap ($20), plug into a usb port, and have a speaker and headphone jack. This will fix it.

Regards,

Joe

How to fix audio jack

Usually on laptops the audio jack is attached to the mother board, so you would honestly have to bring it to a computer repair center for them to replace something like that.

Haed phone jack works but audi jack doesnt ????

It means there is nothing wrong with the audio outlet. There is something wrong with the audio jack. Check the cable and the connections in the jack.

When headphones are connected to my laptop sound still comes from

Double-check that you're connecting to the headphones/audio out jack and not the microphone jack.

Beyond that, if your headphones aren't working (assuming you have audio without them) then you have a hardware problem between motherboard and headphone jack.

Sound Problem with Headphone

First try the headphones in a different machine, such as an mp3 player or cd player to make sure the headphones still work.

Try going to the start button, then settings and control panel. Then select "Sounds and Audio devices" Down at the bottom you should see "Speaker settings." Click the "Advanced" button and then select stereo headphones.

Then, place the headphones into the green audio jack (or the headphone jack up front if you have them), play some music, and then gently wiggle the jack to see if some of the sound makes it into the headphones. If not, try slowly pulling the headphones out of the jack while the music is plaaying. you might find that the jack has slipped a little and may play only if your connector is slightly pulled out or more firmly pushed in. If his helps, then your audio connector is loose and you should replce the sound card. If the card is on the motherboard, you can disabled it when you put a new card in.
