Hi, take the toner cartridge out and shake it left and right (horazontaly) not up or down or tipping it. Place back in unit and print one page. Does it now print on both edges? If so just replace the toner cartridge as you are running low. If that does not solve the issue contact me again.
we had one in our company for 3 years.....once it starts acting wacky its time for it to go. an hp repairman told us it was the main motherboard inside. it would have cost us 350. we just bought a new printer different series instead.
Yes, you will need to replace the drum unit as well. be sure to shop around so you can get the best price because some people mark up the price for that part. You can check the status of your supplies from the printer itself by pushing the "menu" button the printer and scrolling through until you see something about supplies status then press the check mark button.
The print heads don't appreciate being out of ink so the Brother printer has sensors to prevent that but the tape defeated that prevention. Maybe more cleanings or maybe a cartridge with printhead cleaning solution will help. Otherwise, I fear a new printer.
