Sound like the power supply or the monitor bulb is going.
try the monitor on another PC if you can get one, if it works, then you have to find ou the manufature of the video card and get the driver.

My phillips 170 s monitor turns on for just 2 secs then the screen goes blank but the green light is still on like the monitor had not gone into sleep mode but is not displaying any picture can u help me...

More likely to have capacitors failure in the power supply, that will be the first thing to kook for inside, it can also be failure in the backlight inverter circuits, lamps. see example of failed monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Picture ok for a few minutes then go blank

it is your monitor inside problem, you need to know follow issue:
1) inverter board some where the component got less connection
like MOSFET drive or capacitor swelling need to resoldering or change.
2) the back light lamps worn that most cause this symptom, need check or adjust inverter driver to match them work well
3) DC power supply filter capacitor swelling should be this problem, check and fix it.
hope help you something do well, please feedback any question any time,
pleaae take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks!

Pavilion f1903 silver goes blank seconds after turning on.

The monitor you have has bad components on the circuit boards inside.
This is a classic problem with all LCD monitors.
I rebuild them on a daily basis so I recognize the symptoms.
I would suggest finding someone who can do component level repair on the circuit boards inside.
I also suggest not trying to repair yourself as there are many breakable components to them as well as components inside that do not like static electricity discharges.

Screen goes bank after 2 seconds even if powder light is on

i just finished repairing a 20 inch acer monitor that had the same issue.... you have to take it apart and examine the power supply side of the monitor. there are capacitors that go bad on that board. you can tell be feeling the tops of them... the feel rounded. replace the capacitors and put it back together and it will work fine

Monitor only stays on for 3 seconds

There is probably a bad capacitor within the monitor that will not allow the picture to "hold" in the on configuration. This will need to be replaced. You can send it back to Phillips, or 17" monitors are pretty cheap these days. I would suggest a Samsung or BenQ. They both carry 3yr warranties.
