Hard Drive I want to know where I can find a hard drive for my computer that is less than the $150 that Dell charges. Also, is there another one that is more faster that I can install besides the original one that Dell says is for that computer? Thanks A

Either your hard drive is bad or the controller circuit that controls it. So you have 1 option, replace the hard drive and run the test again. Depending on the size of your drive it may run you $50 to $ 150 bucks. If it's the drive controller circuit, you may need a new system board. Might be cheaper to buy a new computer.

your HDD may be corrupted, re-installing windows vista is one option. Your best bet is if you have/ can obtain a copy of windows vista run setup and try the repair wizard in the windows vista setup, the wizard automatically finds errors and missing files and replaces them therefore solving any errors in your HDD. you can also try to use the recovery wizard from your recovery disc. best of luck

I suggest you check the specification of your Dell laptop to see the maximum size hard drive it can support. The maximum size hard disk you can install in the laptop depends upon the BIOS.
Any major brand of 2 1/2" hard drive will work with the Dell.

It may be the DC to DC circuit, which is in the motherboard or could be just the DC power jack.
If you gently move the power plug of the laptop left, right, up and down and you see the LED lights changing that, is a sign of a lose DC power jack to fix it, you will either re-solder or replaced it.

take off the side panel of the computer and listen to it a little closer when its on. there are very few actual moving parts so i should be fairly easy to isolate the noise. if it's a fan anywhere in the computer it can be replaced for less than 20 dollars and shouldn't be left till it dies, replace it , it's protecting something.

If it's a cd drive making the noise , it can be replaced for 25 dollars.

If it's the hard drive, then you need to back up your important files AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, because when it crashes, you generally have a hard time retrieving stored information from it.
hard drives can be replaced for 50 to 150 dollars depending on type and how large it is.
Most times the noise from a computer comes from the fans and power supply, then the cd/dvd roms , then the hard drive : so check them in that order. post here again if you need further assistance.. Regards

The computer cannot find the operating system, the disk error message means it cannot find the hard disk, you most likely have a faulty hard disk or less likely a faulty disk controller.

You can test the hard disk by removing it and connecting it to a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot detect this drive as an external drive then you will know your hard drive is faulty ad you need to buy a new one and install Windows and programs etc..

What you want to do is back up files to a portable hard drive. Then you want to find the backup files on your D drive and delete them.
