Question about Umax Astra 2000U Flatbed Scanner
After installing the software for Umax Astra 5600, the Windows XP SP2
goes off after sometime. It appears the driver software is faulty. Please
copy drive:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\If you are prompted to overwrite the file, type y, and then press ENTER.

Try rebooting and holding the F8 key down. It will give you several choices of rebooting, pick the reboot in safe mode with networking. It will not load the drivers. You can then go to the Umax web site and hopefully find updated drivers you can load.
A second option is to go to Start|All Programs|Accessories|System Tools and run System Restore. Pick a date before you installed the hardware and restore to that date.

NTLDR errors are usually caused by defective RAM on the motherboard. Try removing one of the RAM sticks on your board and see if computer works fine. If still gets error msg, swap the RAM stick and try again to narrow down which stick is faulty. Sometimes, its simply some corrosion on the RAM contacts which in that case, you only need to re-seat the sticks.
