Hi there ,

as I tol dou before, more than having a faulty thermostat it looks like the compressor is not efficient enough and it is continuosly under stress.

A very hot coil may be another symptom for this.

Here you find some more tips on how to reduce the compressor pump work load on a fridge.

Regarding the Thermostat, this is always located behind one of the fridge internal panels, and it is directly connected to the temperature control knob.
If there is no other cover to access the thermostat, than it is behind the control knob.

Unfortunately I do not have the repair manual or the schematics for this specific model.
If you call the phone number listed on the owner manual you can order a copy of the service manual, with all schematics and diagrams for your model. Sure that will be a great help.

Not cooling properly, food is spoiling in the fridge and ice melting, foods defrosting in freezer. there is frost on the back of the freezer.

The back of the freezer icing up means that there is a problem with the defrost system. When the defrost system is not working the evaporator coils freeze up , resulting in compressor and fan running most of the time and in reduced or no cooling as the condenser goes under stress and the system loses efficiency.

Defrost system problems are quite a common issue with refrigerators. Coils freeze because of a defective defrost system. With coils frozen the condenser will go under stress and will loose efficiency. The result is the system not producing enough cold to refrigerate the fresh food section while the freezer section instead keeps working.

Try disconnecting power overnight. Allow the freezer to defrost with power off. If the fridge works after that you have a defective defrost system. In that case the problem may come back after a couple of days. To fix the problem the parts comprised in defrost system must be tested, so to find and replace the defective part.

The defrost system comprises defrost thermostat, heater, defrost control and fan. The parts that fail more commonly are thermostat and heater. Both parts are located behind freezer firewall and tested reading impedance with a multimeter. Element and thermostat are faulty if they return Ohms infinity (the circuit is open) when reading impedance with a multimeter at the part's contact.

If thermostat and element are OK, the next part to be tested is the fan. Fan can be tested by simply checking that the motor is running when energized.

Here a tip explaining how to deal with a similar problem on a different fridge model: Fridge not cooling. Procedure is similar with your model.

The mitsubishi fridge thermo damper clog with ice and the fridge is not cold . The ice freezer compartment side is ok. Please advise what is the problem. The model of the fridge is MR -51E -GY. Thanks

These units are called frost free, however in my experience they are some of the time but not all. It is likely that the freezer has built up some ice around the coil and the fan which migrates to the fridge, try the following.

1. Empty the fridge and freezer and store the food elsewhere.
2. Switch off and unplug the unit and leave for 24 to 36 hours with the doors held slightly open. You may get quite a lot of water on the floor, you just need to mop it up, this is normal.
3. Wipe out the inside of both sides to leave them clean and dry.
4. Plug in and switch on, wait around 4 hours. The vent will be clear.
5. Re stock the unit it should be OK.
6. If the problem re-occurs within a few days then there is another possibility that is causing this problem and that is there may be a fault with the defrost system. Possibly the timer, the termination switch or the heater.
7. If the problem goes away for several months then the ongoing solution is to repeat the above steps.

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Frigidaire #FRS24XHA is hot to touch and freezes food on the left

Hi: Those areas are designed to be warm to keep moisture from forming there(Moulion coil). When they get hot it means the fridge is over working. The condenser coils remove the heat from the fridge. When clogged the heat will leave anywhere it can. The moulion coil is the strip you described, and will overheat when the condenser coils wont disperse the heat. Most likely the coils need a good cleaning, on the bottom of the ref. Use a coil brush and a vacuum. Or even an air compressor to blow the dust and hair out; plan on dusting the house too. Pull the grill off the front and clean them. If real bad pull the panel of the lower back and clean it out too. Since you work in detroit the dust and hair on the coils would be like putting a blanket over your radiator. Parts would heat up. I hope it's just the coils. If a compressor is failing you can get the same symptoms. I hope it is the latter for you, as I'm in your boat also. I hope this helps, Jeff

LG GR727RB Top Freezer ok but bottom fridge is not cool

Hi softwaredude with an LG GR-727R refrig. The occasional build up of water on the bottom of the fresh foods sections tells me that the refrig is going through it's defrost cycle, but that the defrost drain is plugged. If you take the back off the refrig. you will see a plastic tube about 1/2 inch diameter with a few ribs on it going from the top of the compressor compartment to the bottom, which is a defrost water holding / evaporating pan. Look to see if that tube is plugged. If not, it is plugged further up, most likely where the defrost water drains off the evaporator (that the coils behind the freezer wall that do all the cooling). Take that back panel off and use a hair dryer to melt all the frost off. The frost is blocking air flow from the freezer section to the fresh foods section, thus poor or no cooling in the FF section. You should be able to spot where the defrost water is suppose to drain. If the water is not draining out, use a turkey baster with hot water to flush out the drain.
