Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi, I bought a Norton AntiVirus package on July 31, 2008. I was infected with a Virus called VirusResponse Alert on Sunday, November 2, 2009. I looked on line for a support number from Norton and a 24 hour support number was listed 1-866-712-1466. I called the number and was asked to shut down my computer to talk to a technician. He came on the phone line and said I had a virus. I told him that I had Norton antivirus and he said it had expired. He said that he would help me would get rid of the virus and give me virus pertection, but it would cost me $330.00 for 3 years. I was under the impression that this was still Norton I was talking too. I had little choice but to go ahead. He downloaded Mcafee on my PC. I have several questions, are you associated with these people. Why did my Norton antivirus expire and allow the virus to infect me. How long had my Norton antivirus been expired? It should not have expired until July 31, 2009. What is going on? Thanks, Lee

I suggest that the only people who can answer your questions are the people at Norton. Obviously, I wouldn't ring that phone number again, because you will only get the same people you have already spoken to. I suggest that you WRITE to the Manager at Norton. (You'll find their address on their paperwork) and tell them everything that happened, and ask them the questions you want answered. And then you'll be in a position to know whether they deserve your business or not, and whether or not you have what you paid for, and if not, what they are going to do about it. Ask if they will give a refund if you have not got what you paid for. And I think that if you got a Virus while you were supposedly protected by their product, then you definitely Didn't get what you expected to.

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

What is symantec antivirus??????????

Symantec/Norton AntiVirus (SAV for Windows, NAV for Mac OS X) is a virus protection program distributed by the Symantec Corporation, offering effective protection features, including infected file quarantine, online virus protection updates, and an automatic scheduler. SAV/NAV is designed to start running as soon as your computer's operating system starts. It runs in the background, checking all vulnerable files for possible infection by malevolent programs called viruses and worms. SAV/NAV does this by looking for the identifying signatures of these worms and viruses and comparing them to known viruses for which it has files. When it detects an infected file, it notifies you and manages the infection according to your preferences.

System has a virus mbr invected by bloodhpund.mbr how do I delete this. I purchased Norton 2010 but it won't remopve the problem says it needs to be installed but can't get into system to install.

You're Acer probably has Rescue and Recovery™ installed. Rescue and Recovery is a suite of self-recovery tools to help you diagnose, get help, and recover your system.

When you set the Bloodhound heuristics in Norton AntiVirus to it's highest setting you probably ran a virus scan and saw a Norton AntiVirus alert that states that it's detected a potential threat, Bloodhound.MBR. But this is probably not a virus but the recovery software on your laptop.

Solution:

If you have IBM Rescue and Recovery and Norton AntiVirus Bloodhound heuristics are configured to the highest setting, Norton AntiVirus may alert you with a Bloodhound.MBR detection when you run a virus scan. To avoid this, configure your Bloodhound heuristics to the default setting.

To reset Bloodhound to the default setting
  1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus was installed as part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start one of those programs.
  2. Click Options.
If you see a submenu, then click Norton AntiVirus.
  3. Click Auto-Protect.
  4. Click Bloodhound.
  5. Click Default level of protection (recommended).
  6. Click OK
  7. Repeat steps 3-6 for Manual Scan.
In step 3, substitute Manual Scan for Auto-Protect.
  8. Exit Norton AntiVirus.

VirusResponse Lab 2009 on computer.

What this programs does:
VirusResponse Lab 2009 is an exact replica, other than the name, of the Zlob installed rogue called Antivirus Lab 2009. VirusResponse Lab is installed via malware that pretends to be a video codec required to watch videos online. Instead of doing what is advertised, the Zlob Trojan displays fake security alerts on your computer stating that your computer is infected and installs the VirusResponse Lab program. Once installed, the program will be configured to start automatically when your computer loads. Once started this program will scan your computer a list a variety of infections that cannot be removed unless you first purchase the software. These found infections, though, are all fake and are only being shown to scare you into purchasing the VirusResponse Lab 2009.
Another byproduct of having this software installed is that your computer will begin to run slower. This is because the program is always running in the background while using your computer's resources. VirusResponse Lab will also periodically display nag boxes stating that you are infected and that you should purchase the software. Getting out of these sequences of boxes trying to sell you the software can be irritating and time consuming.

This guide will walk you through removing the VirusResponseLab 2009 program and its associated malware for free.
