Question about Canon imageCLASS MF5750 All-In-One Laser Printer
We have installed a new print cartridge and the printer will not recognize the new cartridge has been installed. We keep getting the message to "Install cartridge". We have tried unplugging the printer, leaving it a few minutes and plugging it back in. No change. This is not a new type of printer for us either. This is the second machine and the first one is still working great with no problems. We just got the new one about a month ago. Please help. Thank you
Use a Q-Tip and some clean water to clean the contacts behind the cartridge in the printer and on the cartridge itself. Then use a pencil with a clean eraser to polish the contacts. Be careful not to touch the part where the ink comes out of the cartridge.
Also, are you using Canon ink or third party?

you have a purge unit problem, cost more than the printer is worth unless it is under warranty,

Some printer brands have a cute scheme that reads a "new" cartridge as good, but the refilled one has a small fuse link that is burned out by the printer. Try factory new cartridges. Unplug the printer power for a bit to reset the printer.

Remove the cartridges and gently wipe the cartridge contacts with a dry cloth, then put them back in. Then, hold the "resume" button for 10 seconds for each cartridge, that should reset them.
If that doesn't work, one of your cartridges (sadly) needs to be replaced.

It's mean you should replace a new print head

Testimonial: "Thanks! I had resigned myself to buying the print head. Now, I've got to find the least expensive, I don't want to throw away this printer that has worked so well for me."
Ok i know this is kinda old, but i found a solution.
First to those people to state I found a solution from hp, cannon etc etc and not give out the direct link, or instructions, then whats the point fing posting????
This error happens when you install an oem cartridge onto your system. Or havent used it in a while, so the machine is somehow misfigured.
This solution is for canon mp800, simply switch off printer. HOLD stop/reset and press and HOLD on/off button. release stop/reset. Now press stop.reset twice. then release on/off button, press stop/reset 4 times, wait 20 seconds, press on/off button twice.
switch machine back on and the printer should find the cartridges.
This method maybe the same for your mp*** if not google RESET CANON PRINTER MP*** and you'll find the correct buttons to press.
here's a printer on reseting a bunch of canon printers http://tricks-collections.com/reset-printer-canon-mp140-mp160-mp180-mp210-mp220-mp460-mp470-mp500-mp510-mp530-mp600-mp610-mp800-mp820-mp810-mp830-mp960-mp970/
good luck.. and FU canon for adding you scamming chips into cartridges.
