Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I have a sony kf42e200 rear projector tv and the display is appearing red at the top of teh screen and blue at the bottom. I'm assuming it is the bulb and it needs to be replaced, but the tv is only a little over 2 years old and was bought brand new. I thought these bulbs were to last for 10 years.

What is a "yv"? Is it seperate to the bulb? The tv is still under warranty, so hopefully it will be covered.

The 10 years is supposed to be the life span yes but sometimes they go bad due to a fault in the yv itselfyou would be better off buying another tv as the cost to repaur that one will run about the same as a new tv

My LCD projection tv(KF-50E200A) displays projection lamp week when switched ON and out of red color display on the screen. Is this will happen if the projection lamp is week?

no and yes
the lamp warning is to alert you that a timer has expired that clocks the approximated life of the lamp in "hours of use".
it is never accurate and is dependent on whether or not it was reset the last time a lamp was replaced.
reset the lamp timer in the users "setup" menu.

the lamp has NOTHING to do with color, it only provides light.

check the connections between the TV and cable/satelite box...the red.green.blue component connector...the red one is likely loose.
if this does not correct you color problem, your optical engine has failed.
very expensive repair, not for the DIY type guy.

Hello tv has warped bottom and top screen on a rear projector samsung and blurred vision with red, green blue colurs not aligned tried to tune to no avail Samsung rear projector tantus sp42w4/42w5

The colors tell me of a convergence IC issue, warped bottom and top tell of another.

see this page on reparing the convergence problem yourself
http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html

also compair the before and after pictures to see if this is the other problem your having.

Then you have another fault, which im not completely sure of right now. I will look into it.

Blue dots in KDF-60WF655

Yes, your optical block ( light engine) is bad. Heat generated by the lamp circuit with its poorly designed ventilation system, cause the LCD panels inside the light engine to fail. They are the size of a postage stamp. There are 3 LCDs, for red, blue, and green. The heat causes them to warp and de-laminate.

Sony has systematically downed played the scope of this issue. It appears however that virtually every LCD projector they make can develop damage in the light engine which is extremely expensive to fix.

I suggest contacting Sony and your state's attorney general's office of consumer complaints asking for action on this.

It was a convergence problem, both chips goes bad bad also look for bad resistors around the circuit? This is not an easy repair for non skilled person? You need to realign it after replacing the chips? Don't be cheap pay someone to do it right?
