If not then - You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html I suggest you install SP3 it is the latest service pack and contains the latest security fixes.
did you check to see if the speakers are set to default if you did not goto the speaker icon on the bottm right of your screen and right click it and goto playback device and set the speakers to default
if you have done this try to put head set in and see if the headset work if yes then then speakers might be shot ...if nothing at all works look for the drivers online

On 1.Select a task choose Software & Driver Downloads and on 2.Enter a product number, type your laptop model "presario f500" and click on the submit button.
