Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

1 Answer

My Laptop does not turn on.

As the subject states, my notebook is not turning on.
When the AC adapter is plugged into both an active wall socket and the notebook there shows an orange light around the power button, but when attempting to turn on the computer it does nothing.
When using only battery power, attempting to turn on the computer only leads in an orange light turning on, not much else.
I have tried to use only the AC adapter without the battery and the same thing happens as when using both the AC with the battery attached.

I tried what you did, but it is not working. The problem is the light does not turn off unless I remove the AC adapter from the computer.

I cannot tell if the power settings are faulty since I cannot actually turn it on.

After further experimentation and examination I have found out that:
    1) When the AC adapter is attached, regardless of the presence of the battery, the light indicating power and the light around the on button glows orange, but the light indicating the presence of battery power does not light up.
    2) When attempting to turn on the computer, nothing starts, even if the lights are on. The fan does not start to run, nor does the computer monitor even glow.
    3) However, during earlier attempts to turn on the computer, the monitor presented only a flickering white screen that at some points stayed on for minutes. Only after removing the AC adapter did the monitor stop glowing white.
4)I my computer is actually an Acer Aspire 5520, according to the box I found.
5)I remember my computer being exposed to the rain a few months ago, but I do not think this would affect it much.
6)I am unsure how to check if the computer is muted, but there is no beeping associated with this error.
7)This problem started while I was running a few too many programs at the same time (Adobe Acrobat, Firefox 2 with 10 tabs open, Windows media... Windows word... and a few others). The laptop has experienced only 2 crashes.since I have started using it.
8)The laptop has slowed down during odd intervals, only to function nominally after a few moments.

That orange light is usually an indication that the battery is not working properly. If you turn the computer on and take the battery out and put it back in it the yellow light might turn off. There is another indication that you have something in the power settings that might need to be set properly. Check in the control panel>power settings and see if the battery and power settings are okay. Also, sometimes the mute on the volume might be on. Lastly, I had a laptop that never turned on and when the hardrive was taken out and the power was turned on it still did nothing until it was turned off and the harddrive was put back in then turned on again.

You've to replace the ac adapter, if it's brick doesn't get warm or LED does not glow on Power Jack on the laptop. offcourse, check with the wall different sockets

power jack can also be loose. so jiggle the cable to find out.

if notebook is getting power, you can remove the battery, ac adapter, hold and keeep pressing poer button for a minute, then, turn it on.

finally, you can take out hdd and ram, put them back again and turn on the laptop. hope it will help

I can't get my dell inspiron to power on. I will charge the battery using the wall charger but will not come on. What can I try?

Try this if will help.

Remove battery and unplug the ac adapter from laptop.

Without the power sources hold down the power button for 10 seconds.

Check the ac adapter from wall power socket if ac adapter LED is ON.

Plug back in the ac adapter to laptop then check the LED from the ac adapter if it stayed on.

If ac adapter LED turned off right after you plug in the ac adapter to laptop then you need to replace the ac adapter, motherboard and power daughter board.

Hold down the D key then Press Power Button once. Check if color display will appear in the screen.

if the ac adapter stays on you and still no power indicator from the laptop you need to replace motherboard and power daughter board.

Hope this helps.

I have ac adapter plugged into the wall, and into the computer, the charge pack light is green, the battery is in the computer and the computer won't turn on at all

You probably have a bad or loose DC jack on the laptop:

Problem symptoms:

  1. Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  2. Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wiggle the power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  3. The battery will not get charged.
  4. When you plug AC adapter, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).

My lap top will not turn on anymore... its plugged into the wall and no power what so ever.

If there is no power or lights etc, then first we must suspect the Wall Power Supply, you are going to have to try a replacement one to see if thats it, or using a meter check for voltage from adapter. Also check in another wall socket. Also take battery out, then try adapter, see if battery was influencing anything.

Cannot get my computer to turn on

remove all external peripherals. remove laptop battery. remove ac adapter.
plug ac adapter to wall power socket without the laptop connected check if the ac adapter led will stays on. if yes then connect it to the laptop and check if the ac adapter led turns off. if yes motherboard laptop has problems and need to be replaced.
if ac adapter led stays off without connecting laptop, try different wall power socket, if still ac adapter led is off then replace the ac adapter.
if ac adapter has light stays on then connected to laptop but laptop cannot even power up even the ac adapter led is on then laptop motherboard needs to be replace.

Not charging

which green light?

light from the ac power adapter or the light from the battery?

if ac power adapter you are referring to try a diff power wall socket if ac power adapter still off then replace ac power adapter alone.

if battery light is off but the laptop works fine with ac adapter alone try updating the laptop BIOS.

if ac adapter light turns off when it plug to the laptop replace motherboard.

HP DV2036ea i have a blank screen on the computer

Hello there

Description.

When pressing the notebook power button nothing is displayed on the screen or display. The cause of this problem may be a failed AC adapter, the memory modules (RAM) need to be reseated or a failed notebook system board component which will require an HP certified repair.

Below steps will assist in identifying the cause of the problem and suggest the best solution. Test the AC adapter Follow the steps below to determine whether the problem is related to the AC adapter or your notebook system board.
  1. Remove the battery and disconnect all external devices from the computer.
  2. Hold the Power button for several seconds, with all power sources removed. This drains residual power from the system, and may correct many problems.
  3. Connect the AC adapter to a wall outlet and plug the other end into the computer.
  4. Press the Power button to start the notebook PC.
If the notebook does not start or the display is blank then check the power indicator light or power socket LED. Check the power indicator light or power socket LED On newer models of notebook PCs, there is an LED or indicator light around the power socket on the notebook. Check to see if this light is on or off, when the notebook is plugged into AC power. The power indicator light or power socket light should turn on when the AC adapter is connected.

  • If the light does not turn on then the problem is most likely related to the AC adapter or the electrical source in your home or office. Go to the Light does not turn on section on this page.
  • If the light does turn on but the notebook does not start or the there is a blank screen then continue to the Light does turn on but the notebook does not start section on this page

The light does not turn on when the AC adapter is connected If the power indicator LED is off, the AC power adapter may need to be replaced. To determine if the AC power adapter needs to be replaced follow the steps below:
  1. Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged directly into a known working wall outlet.
NOTE: To check the wall outlet, plug in a different known working device like a light, radio etc.
  2. Check all of the following connections:
    • The connection from the power cord to the wall outlet.
    • The connection into the power adapter from the power cord.
    • The connection from the AC adapter to the notebook power socket.
  3. Press the power button again to test the notebook PC.
If the power indicator light still does not turn on, then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced. Contact HP Service and Support for further assistance. Power socket LED or power indicator light is on but the notebook does not start If notebook power indicator light (LED) is on, the AC adapter is working correctly. The problem is a result of a hardware failure in the notebook itself. In some cases, reseating the memory module (RAM) may solve the problem.

Computer shut down

The sparking has probably caused your circuit protection inside the AC adapter to turn off the current.
Also, when you are plugging an adapter in,,do not have it plugged into the wall power outlet when plugging into the laptop,,,plug into the laptop first and then plug into the wall.
