Re: system unable to find hard disk
What kind of laptop do you have? how mutch memory do u have? XP can be very very hard to instal on old laptops with smal memorys.
Download the program "memtest from http://www.memtest.org and check your memosticks Did u change the settings so your laptop starts from cd-driver and not from your harddisk? You should been able to start the instalation even if u cant complete it if you are short of memory

Boot up with the Windows XP installation CD (you will need the Product Installation code) then proceed to install Windows XP follow the instruction to delete the existing partition - create a new partition - then Format the partition (not a quick Format) - this will wipe the hard disk and install a clean Windows XP system.
message means there is no working operating system(OS) installed on the harddisk, like windows XP,vista or a lunix version. if you have a working cd-rom, i use a win 98 install cd that boots from startup then install win98 to find out if there are any hardware issues. if the invalid OS was a version that used the NTFS file system the drive will have to be re-formatted/erased to install win98. if you have a bootable cd-rom version of the OS you use or if the factory IBM restore partition is intact you can use them. they may not save any data you have on the drive. if you have data you need to retrive from the disk drive it is a different procedure.
Haven't used win98 for a while so bear with me and this uses DOS COMMANDS too. If useing restore cd/floppy you have to use a utility from compaq that creates two partitions on hard-drive. They may have a restore floppy if you need it too. One for "recovery files" and one for "OS Boot" AHH, the memories, I still have my 95/98/ME Laptops up and running for older stuff. HP n CQ too. Restore CD should do it all though. If no restore CD - have Win98 CD? if Harddrive partitioned and formated - Just do 1 1. boot from Win98 CD. Partition n Format 2. Choose boot to DOS (puts u in virtual drive A) AT PROMPT 3. Type drive letter of CD ( C: D: or E: ) 4. Type CD Win98 5. Type Fdisk ( to partion drive) reboot n do 1 + 2 6. Type format C: ( I do this to ckeck drive for errors) OR JUST Boot from CD and follow install instructions. 1 to 6 for if you have problem with Win98 CD setting up Harddrive.
for registry error i don't think its required for replace the hard disk ... boot the laptop through win98 boot able cd and delete the all partition using fdisk command and try to install the os .............
its domnickr, its so we can not install xp in model 1255 it will spoils your hard disk all you can install win98 ED 2 only..... so its wise not to try it and reinstall using win 98 install disk. if format is not possible do format using Fdisk command. step 1 :enter dos floppy restart ur lap enter from insulation option. chance boot perority to floppy disk ie Shift +. restart lap enter fdisk in commant format using instruction for any help mail at email@example.com
if still garanteed do nothing otherwise format the hard drive including the recovery drive then install xp.vista is ??.this is easiest way.if still garanteed try going to where you bought it ask them to put winxp on.hope this helps.
I haven't heard of not being able to delete a partition before. You could go to the manufacturer of the hard drives website and find the software to do a low level format or you could download a linux distribution and use the installer to remove the ESIA partition.
I would need to know the model of hard drive and laptop if you need any further assistance.
