I have just been given a kenwood hi-fi system which is old but fantastic, the only problem being......
there isn't a user manual and i'm clueless as to how the tuner works
T-85L is a component of a hifi system not suposed to work alone. You have to connect it to another Kenwood component (an amplifier like the A85 ) through a special cable to power it on/off. The special cable can be used point to point or as daisy-chained.
T85-L Tuner is a component part of the Kenwood MIDI M-65 HiFi system which is powered and controlled through the main unit. Its components, other than this tuner, could include the Integrated amplifier (A-65), Cassette deck (X-85), CD player (CP-950), and a turntable (P-26). Some operations, including power on/off, are mainly controlled by the amplifier unit. You could search the web for the images of (M-65) to visualize its appearance.
However, if you want to operate the tuner separately, you might need a 14 to 17 volts AC power supply through a transformer, to be connected directly to its circuit board connection port, which will turn its display on by which one could adjust its date and time. After that, you will have to use its "on timer" and wait for it to turn on. Then you could use the tuning buttons to tune the stations and set the presets. Furthermore, you will need to have a good amplifier to get the tuner's output to be audible. So, it is not worth its effort. Therefore it is better to use it along with the original M-65 amplifier/control unit if it could be procured.
Hope this helped.

My husband rescued this system from the rubbish. I think I've connected all the cables... but it doesn't seem to have a power cable and I don't know where to get one. (I'm not even sure where it would plug in, so if you or anyone could send me a picture, that would be a start.)
