WINDOWS WILL NOT RECOGNIZE MY 640 GB ONLY 600 GB

If you bought a 640 GB hard drive when the drive is formatted it will be slightly smaller then the size listed on the box.
This is caused by a difference between the size of a GB as defined by windows versus the maker of the drive. The drive manufacture assumes that 1 GB is 1000 MB, where as windows assumes it is 1024 MB.
If you carry these assumptions all the way down to the byte level you get:
640GB = 640000 MB = 6.4 * 10^8 KB = 6.4 * 10^11 bytes
this is the base storage size of the drive.
Then windows takes this number and does the same in reverse to get the number of GB is displays:
6.4 *10^11 bytes = 6.25 * 10^8 KB = 610351 MB = 596.1 GB
There is nothing wrong with the drive, it's just a different unit of measurement.

Re: Windows Movie Maker. When drop n drag picture is brought to the timeline, OK. But, when music is added to the Audio line, the system shuts down with a message: Windows Movie Maker has stopped working....

It is possible that the movie maker is unable to do that task assigned because of the size of the video and audio file. can you try a small file first and see if they will work. a short video and audio clip less than a min. should do

Long periods of hard drive activity

Most likely, it could be the amount of ram you have in your computer. If your running low on ram and it is using the virtual memory your computer can be running all the time causing a slow down in whatever you do. Check to see how much ram you have :)

When composing an e-mail I wish to use different type, different colors, vary size of print, underline words etc and cannot find the service on the compose page.

Hi, the compose sheet of most e-mail is designed in that manner, in that one can not do much formating of words. The compose sheet of an e-mail such as yahoo is primarily for direct communication not for graphic designs or much formatting. And moreover, memory capacity of most websites are designed such that piling up of bytes are discouraged.
But one thing you shld do is to create and modify you file to your satisfaction with any of word processing applicational softwares (eg MS word), then attach the file to the e-mail message before sending.

Win 2000 Pro,..Exec file corrupted message, different progs.

OK, try installing the free winzip program from winzip.com. It is most likely that the files were packed using a version thaqt Microsoft's unzip program just can't handle. It's not that rubust of a program anyway.

Then try unzipping those files with winzip. it should unzip fine without any trouble.

The SFC command should also be on the Windows CD itself as well. Try running the command from the CD drive at a command prompt.

I want to take a digital camera video clip and put it onto a flash drive. The clip is approxiamately 10 minutes. Will it fit onto a 1 GB flash, or even less? I hope this is the sort of question that is...

The amount of memory required depends on the amount of compression. 1 GB is good enough for about 25 minutes
of a premium quality DVD movie, and several house of
reasonable quality mpeg video

In terms of short video clips from an hand held digital mini
camera, the 1 GB Flash card is plenty, providing the camera
uses an efficient compression algorithm.

Shutdown/Startup repair issue

hi dear

The process NDIS 5.1 wrapper driver belongs to the Microsoft Windows Operating System.

Description: File NDIS.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 182912 bytes (94% of all occurrence), 167552 bytes.
The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. The file is a Windows core system file. The program is not visible. It is a Microsoft signed file. The service has no detailed description. Therefore the technical security rating is 0% dangerous.

This is a common problem experienced by many people. Just Google NDIS.sys and you'll see what I mean. For some it is onboard sound such as Realtech, others it is IRQL conflicts, and for still others such as yourself the NIC card.

One person worked around it by uninstalling the Windows driver and downloaded the manufacturer's driver.

oke

My maxtor hard drive is only 465gb. on the box it said 500. have i been ripped?

Can you give me the model number so i can confirm it for you.
the basic is Hard drive manufactures calculate 1000MB=1GB
but windows calculate 1024=1GB in that case windows show you less amount, its the technical way to arranging the FAT table. most of the time you may not been ripped, if you can give me the model number i can confirm.
