Open Question

HP Toolbox FX has encountered an error and can not recover. Please restart HPToolbox FX. How do you do this?

    out of the dozens of sites like this one, there was one that DID have the solution. Fixed it a few months ago, now I have to find it again. it's out there somewhere

SOURCE: Purchased a new HP M2727nf after installation, now

If you are win 7 download the full software solution from the internet and cancel the current installation. You may have to clean up a few folders manually as well as running an application like ccleaner to clean up junk files.
You can download the full software solution at hp.com\
Go to support and drivers
Select Download drivers, software and firmware
type in the product number cb532a
Look for your os and select the full software solution it will either say americas or am/emea1.

How do I disable my HP Toolbox FX error alerts on Windows 7 when I use my Laser Jet HP printer that is connected wireless to my Samsung laptop


Toolbox is NOT supported in Windows 7 To disable,

  1. Use the Windows Search feature to find the hptlbxfx.exe
    application. Typically, this executable file is found in the following location:

    C:\Program Files\HP\ToolboxFX\bin

  2. Click Start .

  3. Click Run .

  4. Browse to the location of the application, or type the path. Do not click OK .

  5. Add the disabling option by typing -disable
    at the end of the path. The information in the Open field will appear as follows:

    "C:\Program Files\HP\ToolboxFX\bin\hptlbxfx.exe -disable"

  6. Click OK .

Hello Brad can you give more details on your problem ?
When you say that the toolbox is not running its because of an error message when you open it ?
Whats the error message ?
How do you connect your printer to the computer? USB or Network ?

I get an error message when I scan. It says Error


ISSUE: The error Waiting for PC is displayed on the control panel when scanning, using the Start Scanbutton on the control panel. The user will also notice a Not Setup on PC error when pressing theScan to … button. Note that scan from the PC works properly without an error. SOLUTION: The probable causes for this issue are listed below:
  • Firewall denying access to PC
  • Device polling not enabled
  • The scan to function is not enabled in the HP Toolbox
  • The destination has not been added to the Scan to button from HP toolbox
  • The HP Toolbox is losing the scan to destination
How to troubleshoot this issue:
  1. PC protection software such as firewall software may prohibit proper communication between HP AiO products and Toolbox and scanning software. Firewalls may need to be reconfigured to allow Toolbox to communicate with the AiO. The Toolbox software is similar to Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer in this way. Temporarily disabling firewall software may be helpful in determining if it needs to be reconfigured for Toolbox to operate properly. Please contact your third party firewall software vendor if assistance is needed to reconfigure the firewall. The following third party support Web sites may be useful:
  2. When Device Polling is turned off, the Alerts and the Scan to e-mail or folder options in the HP Toolbox are disabled, and the START SCAN function on the HP LaserJet AiO product control panel is also turned off. CLICK HERE for instructions on how to turn on Device polling.
  3. To program the device SCAN TO ... button, view the device settings. Open the HP Toolbox and click the Scan to tab. For more information, CLICK HERE to view the document titled HP Color LaserJet 2840 AiO Series Products - How to use "Scan To E-mail" or "Scan to Folder" from the Device
  4. The User loses the folder when choosing to save scanned files under the Scan to Folderoption of the Scan to Tab. The User also may lose the email settings under the Scan to Emailoption of the Scan to Tab. The User restarts the toolbox and it works for some time and the problem repeats again. Perform the following in the order listed to resolve this issue:
    1. Run the Fix Scan Utility and see if it resolves the problem. Click here for the Fix Scan Utility at http://www.hp.com If not, proceed to the next step.
    2. Check the firmware version and make sure that it is up to date. print a configuration page to see what the current firmware version is. Compare it to the latest version offered on HP.com Click here for HP.com at http://www.hp.com . If it is not the latest version then upgrade it to the latest version available on the web.
    3. Download the Software Update Version 3.0 from HP.com and install it. Click here to download the software update from http://www.hp.com

The easiest way to recover your toolbox would be unistalling / reinstalling the software, if you dont have the installation disc you can download the software from www.hp.com and the support and drivers

HP Deskjet 9800 won't print from any program other than toolbox

There is no specific Vista driver for your printer.

You have been installing the Toolbox component.

I just saw your request. I didn't get an email notification of it so my apologies for any delay.

Deselecting HPTLBFX.exe in MSCONFIG (or anything else for that matter in MSCONFIG) is only a temporary solution. Disabling items in MSCONFIG is a trouble-shooting tool. Once you've determined that a particular item in MSCONFIG is causing issues, then the next step is to address that particular item and, eventually, get MSCONFIG back to Normal Boot configuration.

I've resonded to more than 200 questions in the short time I've been here on Fixya. Unfortunately, I don't know which problem you're referring to. If you'd like to give me a link to that problem or, better yet, explain to me in detail the equipment involved and the problem you're experiencing, I'd be more than happy to work w/ you on it.

It sounds as though there is a possibility HP Toolbox is conflicting or being conflicted w/ or by another program or it is, in itself, corrupted, etc.

(01) My recommendation would be to disconnect from your computer the HP Printer that this particular HP Toolbox is associated with.

(02) Uninstall the HP Software that includes that HP Toolbox.

(03) Reboot your computer.

(04) Restore MSCONFIG to Normal Boot.

(05) Reboot your computer.

(06) Clean up w/ THIS utility.

(07) Reboot your computer.

(08) Clean up w/ CCleaner again.

(09) Then re-install your printer software.

** Be sure to create System Restore points all along the way.

** If you have other HP Software installed that also includes a monitoring program and/or toolbox, please, let me know BEFORE you take the steps I've outlined here.

If you'd like me to pursue this with you, please, post back here w/ the results and your observations. Hold off, please, on assigning a "best solution rating" until the issue has been resolved or diagnosed. I'll continue to work w/ you as long as the problem remains open.
