Have you tried having the battery tested not for volts but cranking amps? just had my bike do the same and we should have 90 cold cranking and i had 1. I would start there. most places will test for free. I have a 2003 saber .

It has an automatic cam chain tensioner. If you are getting cam chain rattle, I would look at worn guides/chain.

SOURCE: bike won't start and head light won't come on
Not really a solution, but my 2000VLX started donig the same thing, after an hour or so or riding, except the lights DO turn on. When I finally get it started, Idles OK, but dies when given any throttle. Any ideas?
