Question about Televison & Video

I have a problem with a double DIN 7" Touch Screen in car audio/DVD/GPS/Bluetooth/MP3. Car battery went flat whilst parked(due to Parking Lights left on)and had to be push started. When clutch started, touch screen went blank(although sound was still evident. I have not been able to obtain any improvement in this condition. Power button works and is illuminated. All function buttons illuminate when unit is turned on. Screen Tilt function operates as intended. No sign of life on screen. Any ideas would be helpful. This unit is a Chinese manufactured item that was working perfectly for the past six months.

Unit has been removed from the car for several days, checked for visual signs of damaged components, and replaced in vehicle. No sign of screen coming to life when plugged into wiring and switched on, however Automatic Radio Antenna extends when Power button is activated.
    Any more ideas?

Further trial and error testing reveals that the Radio,DVD,CD,and
possibly GPS touch screen buttons and sound are all functioning, but
not visible on black screen. This would seem to indicate that there is
some malfunction of the video output.
    Ideas please.

There isn't one solitary name or Model No. to be found any where on this unit(except some circuit board Part No.s). Unit is NOT factory fitted, it is an aftermarket item. Would these pico fuses be easy to identify and/or test?

Hi

You didn't happen to get any make and model numbers of the unit whilst you had it out. Certainly sounds like the unit has a logic lockup caused by the battery going dead flat. I don't suspect the subsequent clutch start has affected it, more the brown out effect of the dead battery, or same when trying to initially start the car. It is possible that is has blown one of those pesky circuit protector pico fuses internally in the power supply switching stages. They can be problematic with interrupted voltage problems. If you can give me more info on the unit, I may be able to get a better diagnosis or a reset procedure for you. I take it you have inspected the front panel for any small holes that may have a reset switch behind it. If it is a factory fitter, there may be something in the user manual about doing a reset.

They come in many shapes and sizes, and can be surface mount devices(no leads soldered straight to the board, small 2 pin black plastic device that resembles a transistor in shape. They can be as low in value as a few milliamps, and are designed to protect circuit stages if a problem occurs and can be numerous and plentiful through out the unit, A good bench technician that is familiar with car HiFi/electronics should be able spot them and diagnose the problem for you.

You say the screen is black, but is it actually blank. Can you see anything on the screen when you shine a torch up to it. It may be a backlit screen that the power supply stage has failed to.

The lack of brand names on the equipment points to it being a "back door" end of production run product. It may well be a decent brand that was bypassed off the production line before branding. A not uncommon move for smart importers and sneaky manufacturers. If there are any numbers anywhere... :) then we may be able to track down the donor brand of the gear and assist with some more info.

Hi, I had a problem something similar to this. But it worked fine after sometime when my car was running.
The problem was that the battery was weak / not getting charged properly. Once when I fixed it everything went fine...
Sometimes the solution may be simple... Check the battery once please ...
Thanks, :)

Hi,

If this had been jump started from another car battery to battery or put on a battery charger without removing the fuse to the player I'd say it was suffering from an over voltage surge. I don't think that can happen from a push start, but it is possible. But, what can happen form a jump start is a loosened connection to the video screen dislodging.

This connection needs to be checked for breakage and not just looseness leading to a disconnect. The connection should be BNC to prevent this by design, but that doesn't mean it was and is. Unless over course this has been checked and you didn't say so.

OK?

So, the unit was in the on position when the car was jump started?

There still may have been a voltage overload from the jump start, although I think this is far fetched personally.

As you now state, the unit was removed for component problems and reassembled and inserted. This precludes problems that I had suggested with a connector (a rather obvious conclusion you also considered already). As this problem may still be a result of it being in the on position while jump started by motion and a clutched popped, I'm going to defer further troubleshooting to an automobile troubleshooter who is up to code on current technology. My knowledge ends with the early 90s when I left cars for computer assisted devices.

Sorry I can't be of any further assistance.

There is no need to rate this solution, although a Helpful would be nice. As you refuse and move on to the next (you actually do not need to repost every time, you can add information, but you don't have to restate it, we can see it all) the system gives an automatic Thanks for Trying. A Helpful from you will not obligate you to any payments until you hear from one of our car geniuses here at FixYa. We have many. You'll know one when you hear from them. The one that comes to my mind is Toyota Ed. He is amazing.

    Best Regards and good luck,

I have serviced a lot of portable dvd players, when the adaper shorts in the manner you describe it usually takes out the pcb board making it not cost effective to repair, far cheaper to replace the whole unit.

I want to install a sony dvd player to my curtis flat screen ty

At the rear or side of the PC there should be either or both of a 15 Pin DIN Plug, HDMI socket. or a Yellow RCA or 4 -7 pin DIN. Now IF these are present then YES you can connect to a TV. Now some TV's have a connector a DB15 MALE, so that the cable from the PC to the TV, is DB15. this plugs in directly, with appropriate DB15 cable. This, however, will ONLY take the VIDEO to the TV, Audio is delivered via the "Audio Out" Jack on PC, and Plugged into the AV Sockets on the TV, with a dual cored coaxial cable, they are Red & White. Some PC's also have a Yellow RCA Connector, OR a 4 -7 Pin DIN Socket, that requires a Special Adapter Cable (That generally came with the unit, and are colored and marked as to output) to use, for Video/Audio Out to TV. This signal is Composite or SVHS Video & Stereo Out. This connects up TO the TV's Composite/SVHS input Jacks and the Red & White Audio IN, RCA Jacks, &/or DIN SVHS socket.
First you need to know if your PC can output to a TV. Then you need to get the adapter & cables that connect the PC to the TV. Then you need the correct TV drivers installed for your video card. When they are all installed, you need to "Enable" that Monitors, the TV's, Desktop. You need to set either a "Cloned" display or "Spanned, Extended Desktop". Go to "Display Settings" Now ensure the TV/Monitor connected has the correct input/output display settings. Adjust the screens resolution via the resoloution "Slider", it is best to start with, 800x600 32 bit color. or even lower. and once working OK, THEN increase to max resolution, your TV can handle, find out from manual. Once it is all connected up. It should all just work great. Now, from then on, &, to get it to work every-time, the process is. Turn everything OFF. Connect the leads between PC & TV, Turn the TV, ON. Then, startup the PC up. It should "Detect" that it has TWO "Monitors" ie: One Monitor & One TV/Monitor, & you should see your desktop appear after a bit. Now you have screen 1 & screens 2. Now, if you are using "Cloned" mode, then whatever is displayed on the Master monitor, will be displayed on the TV. If you used Spanned, mode, in this mode, however, you will have to."Drag" the Video window, over to the TV, and it is though, you have one "Big Desktop". Now IF using Nvidia or ATI then BOTH of those have thier OWN, Control Panel, this, all then can make it all a lot easier to do it. So I would suggest that this method be used. But if you get stuck, or just want to do it by hand, then the the "By Hand" method is the only way. There is a great program called MultiMon, this allows great control over dual displays, and is well worth installing.

How do i get my dual dvd player to play movies while parking break is off

It is illegal in many states to play a dvd movie while driving... The car manufacturers do not want to get sued when you cause a collision.
The parking brake stays on.

Parking Break Override

Simple if you don't know where to ground the wire to, just ground it with the ground wire of the radio. Twist the pink and black wires together, then put them with the black ground comming from the car. Hope this helps.

My in dash tv dont play dvd when the park brake is on

Sounds like it was wired backwards. The car in-dash receivers with video are suppose to be wired so that they will only play when the parking brake is on.

You should check your manual with your in-dash and find out how the parking brake sense wire is suppose to be wired, typically people just wire them with a switch to ground or +12V (CHECK MANUAL FOR WHICH ONE) and then flip the switch when they want it to play video; or they just wire it permanently to whatever is needed, but on some receivers that won't work because it checks for that.

If your DVD recorder can still access CD's the goto the following link and select your DVD recorder from the drop down list under audio/video and download the firmware file.

Write the file contained in the zip file to a CD and insert it into your DVD recorder. Follow the instructions in the user manual to complete the firmware update.

This should solve your problem.
