Re: Problem with the flash of my camera
Your flash is defective and needs to be replaced.
solution is to look online for a defective camera and use the parts to
fix yours. Another is to buy a flash from someone like us who sells new
and used parts and performs repairs if you can't do it yourself.

Did you accidentally press the DISP button on the back of your camera? This manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries. Try pressing this button one more time to see if it turns the screen back on.
you should have turned on the protection status on while taking pictures by default. to switch of this status all you have to do is in the preview mode of the camera select that particular picture. now press the menu button. you can see a variety of options there. in those there is an option protection status of "protect this photo". you can turn it off there.
You cannot erase the card fromm the camera(You can delete the pic one by one using the delete option though). However you can connect the cam to your PC using the USB cable. The cam will be shown as a drive. Just right-click and click format. As for the flash no, you dont have to hit the flash button for every pic.
An ideea would be pressing the button a little bit harder and a little bit longer. Most of the cameras have that orange light before the flash(that appears when you press harder on the button) to reduce the red-eye effect in the pictures. If this doesn't work, look carefully in the manual or the settings of your camera and try to find an option that turns on the flash. Also the type of the picture(indoor, sunny, night etc) can automatically disable the flash. As a last resort, here is the camera's manual
I have the same problem. Cannon customer support says it will fix this for $119 + 8 for shipping... or you can get a refurbished SD 800is for $140+10 for shipping with w/ a 6 month warranty... what a deal ;~)
