Keyboard dont type

No matter how careful you may be, knocking a cup of coffee or spilling a glass of soda over your keyboard may happen. This does not, however, mean the end of your keyboard. If you act quickly, you may be able to fix your wet keyboard to avoid any corrosion of its electronic components or any short circuit which might render it unusable. By following a few recommendations, you should be able to fix your wet computer keyboard.

Unplug the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any corrosion or short circuit. If you spilled water over your laptop's keyboard, turn your computer off by clicking on "Shut Down" on "Turn Off" in the start menu, unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Turn the keyboard upside down and shake it to remove most of the water from it. Take a hair dryer and set it to its lowest temperature setting. Use it to dry any water which might remain under your keyboard's keys. Wait at least 12 hours before plugging your keyboard into your computer again. If your computer is a laptop, wait 12 hours before turning it on again. For Other Liquids Disconnect the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any short circuit or corrosion. Turn your computer off by selecting "Shut Down" or "Turn Off" in the start menu, remove the battery and disconnect the power supply. Place paper towels on a table, turn the keyboard upside down and shake it over them to allow most of the liquid to fall down. Take a few clean paper towels and wipe the liquid off your keyboard's keys. To clean between the keys, you can also use cotton swabs with just a little bit of water. If the liquid which you spilled over your keyboard contained a high amount of sugar, such as soda or sugared coffee, you might have to remove some of your keyboard's keys to clean the surface under the keys with paper towels or swabs. You can do so by lifting them gently with a screwdriver or by using a key remover, which you can find in some IT stores. Wait at least 12 hours before using your keyboard again. If your computer is a laptop, wait the same length of time before turning it on again. How to Clean Your Keyboard Fix Computer Keyboard Problems

I want to lock the keyboard and touch screen on a dell studio so i can clean it rather than shut down is it possible

Better to shut the computer down, no regrets that way.

But a way to do would be with an air duster device (aerosol can).

You may still need to lightly wipe the keyboard with a slightly damp (not wet - avoid water damage to internal components) cloth.

Also be careful not to accidentally clip any keys off. Use gentle dabbing and small circular motions or small sections of a few keys rather than large wiping motions across the whole keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Ways to take care of yaour keyboard

Things You'll Need
  • Computer Keyboard
  • Cotton Swab
  • Isopropyl alcohol
    • Before doing any type of cleaning make sure to turn off your computer and disconnect the computer keyboard from it.

    • Once the keyboard is unhooked, turn it upside down and grab the can of compressed air. With the keyboard still upside down, tap it and watch all of the dust and grime fall out. Repeat this step 1 or 2 more times until nothing falls from the keyboard when you turn it upside down.

    • Take the cotton swab and dip it into the alcohol before cleaning the sides of the keyboard

  • If you want a more thorough cleaning, remove all of the keys from the keyboard and take a moist cloth and wipe away the dust. Also use the can of compressed air to vanish away grime particles.

  • Never use a wet towel on your computer keyboard

  • Turn off your computer and then unplug and reseat your keyboard. Occasionally computers will experience glitches that prevent drivers and software from loading correctly. Restarting your computer and plugging your keyboard back in will often solve the problem. If not, View your keyboard's status in the Device Manager. To access the Device Manager, open the Windows Control Panel and click on "System and Maintenance." Scroll down to the third section from the bottom and click on "Device Manager." In the menu bar at the top of the Device Manager window, press the button called "Scan for hardware changes." Windows will now scan your computer for any new or malfunctioning hardware. Once the page refreshes, go down the list of devices and click on "Keyboards." Right-click on your keyboard and select "Properties." A new screen will then pop up to tell you whether Windows thinks the device is working properly. If the system indicates the keyboard is not working properly but doesn't give you instructions on how to fix the problem, .

  • Visit your keyboard manufacturer's website and view the support or troubleshooting sections. Find the "Search Help" (or similarly named) box and enter your keyboard model number (this can be found on the bottom of your keyboard on a sticker or engraved in the plastic).

As for cleaning a laptop computer keybord, I would use a can for compressed air, q-tips, and soapy water. I would be careful about getting the laptop too wet as water can seep into the computer. Hope this helps!!

If this was helpful please rate with a 4 thumbs up!! Thanks for using!!

Lower right panel of keys and number pad do not respond.

Sounds like you solved it yourself. NEVER use a wet anything to clean electronics, water and circuitry were never meant to meet.

You will most likely need to replace the keyboard, that being said if you need to clean it again in the future use "canned air" compressed gas to blow out any dust and debris and if you must scrub it down, disconnect it from the computer first, use something like Monster Screen Cleaner then let it dry overnight or blow it out with the "canned air" then let it airdry for at least 4 hours before plugging it back into the computer.

My dog peed on the screen/keyboard of my Toshiba Satellite laptop. Now we can't turn it on. Is there any hope of rescuing this machine?

There are a couple of things that probably got wet.

First of all, if it is still wet, you need to get it upside down, and get it open to dry it out, use alcohol to clean off the stained areas.

If you remove the screws on the back, and get the power strip with the lights on the top of the keyboard off. It pops off very carefully, but you need to unscrew the retainer screws poss in the battery compartment, or just on the bottom.

Also, once that strip is off, you should be able to unscrew a couple screws to get the keyboard off. There might be a screw or two on the bottom again, holding the keyboard down.

My guess is the keyboard is hosed, literally. I just had a customer who has a wine spill, and after clean up, everything but the keyboard worked.

Make sure you clean out the power area, up by the power switch, speakers, and whatever else is up there.

Worst case, you might need to take it to a repair shop to get the whole body cleaned out down into the motherboard.

Lastly, you can carefully remove the monitor faceplate with the screws hidden by rubber buttons, and then look at the electronics on the bottom and see if they are stained and wet. Your inverter could have gotten wet. That is the slim little metal/covered device at the bottom of the screen.

Get it dried out, and cleaned with alcohol. Many times the keyboard has to be replaced, but it still should start up if the rest of the computer is working ok. It depends, some models will not start up with a keyboard that is bad.
