Problem with the HP LaserJet 6L Printer

LaserJet 6L with Vista using Parallel to USB Cable

I've tried a number of ways to get HP LaserJet 6L to communicate with Vista. Spent over 3 hours with still no luck.
On the HP website, they indicate that Windows Update in Vista will have the driver built in.
My question is:
1. What port do you use or do you create a new one?

On some forums, people claim this can be done, but for still cannot get this to go.
I have even tried taking off 'bi-drectional' support - nothing.
Help !!!
This is a solid printer and it would be such a waste.

I have dell studio 15 with Vista Ultimate and I am unable toprint on my HP laserjet 6l, eventhough supposedly I loaded the drivers from Vista on my computer & I have a compatible cable

Im also unable to print on my HP Laserjet 6L with vista.
I purchased a parallel lead to USB and it would appear that my laptop has identified the printer but everytime I try to print something - it simply doesn't !

I have older Dell Latitude laptop and use printers with parallel printer (HP Laserjet 4 & 5 and Oki). I have ordered a wireless parallel print server to allow wireless printing. I am now also considered buying a new laptop, but do not know if it will be Normal 0 compatible with my HP Laserjet 4 printer, printing wired or wireless. I was told that the printer drivers for my HP Laserjet 4, etc. may not be Normal 0 compatible with the Vista operating system. I do not want to ditch my current printers. What is one to do to get the older printers to work properly?

It can be done tested by Thoo personally 6L printer prints well on vista too
The printer end should be connected to 25 pin parallel cable, converted to the USB on the notebook end of the wiring
To solve your printing problems locate vista driver, since i have tested vista works fine on HP 6L printers
make sure you select the correct O/S and assign in to the USB virtual port 05

After installing my vista can print perfectly well on test printout

You can tick back the bi-directional support thing, HP6L is actually converted from a waste to an asset if you listen to my advise, quote Thoo Wai Kiat
