After you remove about 8 phillips screws that hold the dash on you can unplug everything that is attached to it.You will see 2 phillips screws that hold the speedometer remove them. Then remove the plastic cover from the steering column(look on the under side you will see the recessed holes remove the 3 phillips screws). The cover will separate into 2 pieces. with that out of the way look on the left and right side of the steering column remove the 2 phillips screws (they point up and hold the bottom of the speedometer cluster. Unplug the connectors pull it out and look at the back you will see ksw marked in 2 places move the phillips screw from one to the other. That resets the ox. sensor.
I had the same problem when i had a new oxgen sensor put in i did find out that it is in the dash behind your speedometer i tried to do it myself but i got the dash off but i couldnt get the rest off so i just left it untill i can get a diagram to show me the rest of the way i hope this helped a little.

THE FUEL MILAGE ON THAT PARTICULAR VEHICLE SHOULD BE SOMEWHERE AROUND 17MPG IF IT IS EQUIPED WITH THE 4.0L V6. ONE THING YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY IS TO RESET THE K.A.M. ON THE VEHICLE. THIS WILL RESET ALL OF THE FUEL CURVES AND OXYGEN SENSOR PARAMETERS AND ALLOW THE SYSTEM TO RE-LEARN HOW MUCH FUEL IS NEEDED TO RUN PROPERLY. TO DO THIS YOU CAN SIMPLY DISCONNECT THE NEGITIVE AND POSITIVE BATTERY CABLES AND LET THE VEHICLE SET FOR ABOUT 10-15 MIN. AFTER THAT TIME TOUCH THE TWO CABLES TOGETHER FOR ABOUT 15 SEC. AND THEN REINSTALL BATTERY CABLES ON BATTERY. THIS MAY HELP IN YOUR CASE BACAUSE WITH A NEW OXGEN SENSOR, THE COMPUTER IS NOT USED TO SEEING THE CORRECT READING SO WHEN IT DOES GET THE READING THAT IT NEEDS, IT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM.
Year make and model also engine size. I'm not a fan of universal O2 sensors perhaps you should've put a direct fit on. To clear the codes depending on the year if the car removing the and make removing the battery negative, the ECM fuse or using a scanner should work.
Most auto stores will plug a diagnostic box into a plug under the dash. The car will then tell you why the light is on. Auto stores will do the diagnostic for free to sell you the parts you need to fix it. When they have your car plugged in they can also turn off the light. If the light comes back on you will probably need to do the recommended repair to keep the light off. It is possible the oxygen sensor was not bad or there were actually multiple problems causing the light to be on.
have the code erased and reset the computer by disconecting the battery. if the code returns then replace the sensor again w a dealer replacement part if not done so already. many times aftermarket sensors or cheaper sensors that are supposed to be for all vehicles dont remedy the problem.
if u have one oxygen sensor then u need to take a deep look at the bottom of ur car it will be somewhere at the Exhaust pipe
if u have a catalytic converter then u will have two oxygen sensors one before the catalytic converter & the other will be after the catalytic converter.
Note: the catalytic converter is located at after a little bit of beginning in Exhaust pipe.
It gets pretty hot in there, and although hardly any manufacturers specify replacement intervals for oxygen sensors, they play a critical role in providing the ECM with acurate data for best running performance/economy. Change it, as the savings in NOT changing it will be soon eroded by increased fuel usage.
The only thing you need to be concerned with is the amount of wires that go to the oxygen sensor, you state that it is not the original engine but I assume that you still are using the original loom and computer control system for your truck and if so you can reference the oxygen sensor connector.. Will have to use same oxygen sensor for original engine....Good Luck
