Re: my ps3 keeps turning off
As far as I know there is no immiediate repair for this system error. You need to call Sony. If it's under a year old they will repair or repalce it for free, even shipping!! If it's over a year old it will cost $150 (US) to repair or replace the unit including shipping.

There are many reasons to cause PS3 goes frozen, keep turn off with red light. It's waste your time and money if you send to somewhere repair - because the same problems will be back after then. you are right about replacing the thermal compound between the cpu/gpu and heat sync. the gpu and cpu may need to be refolowed also. another tip is dont over tighten the screws. Tip: keep your ps3 flat do not keep it standing. when it is standing and heats up the thermal compound can start to move away from the heat sync. Keeping it flat will help extend the life PS3 at least from the overheating issue.
PS3 has overheated and the thermal compound between the cpu/gpu and heat sync need to be replaced. the gpu and cpu may need to be reflowed as well. Had the same problem and fixed mine. The thermal compound was pretty much gone when i opened up the system. Also dont keep your ps3 on its side leave it flat this will help keep the compound from moving as much.
well yes obviously the flashing red light means that if u do not turn off ur PS3 it will die. but depending on how long u have had ur PS3, it may be becuase the life span is almost over.
if u have not had for a couple years it is most likely a manufacturing error
u should send it in to sony before the warranty is up and have them take a look at it
