You can have the TV repaired for most likely about $600 after all is said and done, the manufacturerers don't sell indiviual parts for the circuit boards that fail and give you your problem, new large screen's like Viszo sell for around $900 for a 42" LCD, just replace it, since after all the TV will most likely develope a problem again, more money wasted.

Hi,

The could be a number of reasons why the unit fails to work:

  • being an LCD, foremost to check would be the CCF lamps and the inverter unit that powers them;
  • you can verify this by shining a flashlight diagonally to the screen while pressing on the volume control and see if you can see the semblance of the volume level going up (except of course it is dark);
  • it could be the power supply board. Common culprits are leaky/blistered capacitors due to the heat build-up internally.
For a better diagnosis, the unit has to be opened up. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional. if the unit is still under warranty, you may need to contact your point of purchase or an authorized Protron Service Center near you.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Have you confirmed if it is the CCF Lamps and/or the inverters?

hi,

The best and the only solution to fix this problem is to call a tech and get it serviced or if it is still under warranty just get it replaced.

Few troubleshooting steps you can try:

1)Do a hard reset by unpluging all the cords for 4hrs and then plug it back.
2)The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to work reliably.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution

Hi I'm having an issue with a Sony TV model KDF-E42A10 when I push power button it makes this buzzing sound and it sounds like a fan noise then turns off by itself and it has no picture the screen displays...

Is it 3 sets of 2 buzzes about 15 seconds apart ?
---This is a bad bulb or an improperly installed replacement

or a continuous buzzing ?
----This is a Power Supply Unit going-bad or failed. The louder it gets the harder it is working....eventually it will fail. Ensure there is proper ventilation around your TV.

Why am I starting to see black lines on the screen? I had this tv for only three years. Second protron worked for two years then all of a sudden it lost all power and has not worked since, can you explain...

yes. power supply may have overheated. your probably have bad capacitors and they need to be replaced. your screen may have caused the power supply to work too hard and it burned up

tv is in shutdown, drawing to much current. usually focus or high voltage divider (sometimes they are one). not usually the power supply.

JVC Model no: AV-48WP34 Projection Problems

OK, problem seems in convergence section of TV and can be confirmed by testing voltage supply as mentioned in schematics.

You can download service manual copy from Manual Zone for small fee and it has schematics, exploded views. board location, part numbers info.

Let me know if you need further help.
Thanks.
