Question about Stoves 1000DFDLm Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Gas Oven Hello,  12 year old Sears (GE, sears badge) oven.   Did not heat. Ignitor drew only 2.6-2.8 amps. Ignited for about 2 seconds then shut off.  Been replaced once so I do not have original for reference. I have replaced my ignitor and gas flows in about 35 seconds. It does not ignite reliably. over 40 seconds gas flow before I shut it off. One time mini gas 'bomb' with flame flash visible outside door. The ignitor is a generic part original not a=vail anymore. Do I need to re-orient it (bend tabs) so it is super close to the gas jets? It is visually as close to the Broiler Burner I can get.  Thanks

thank you sir. I had a right angle bracket made at local blacksmith and with some tuning (channelock manhandling) of that mounted to the original bracket I got it oriented quite smartly to the jets. Works like a champ. I used a WB2X9998.

Boy, thats GE for you. God, I run into this all the time with GE products, you cant find the parts half time, and when you do, their more expensive than buying a new stove. Do you still have the model number or part number? If not, a lot of the new ignitors will work as well. Part numbers WB2X9154, WB13K21, WB2X10016, and WB2X9998 will a lot of times mount right back up to an older number ignitor set-up and can be found pretty easily on Ebay so you wont have to pay that "Generally Expensive (GE)" price. Let me know if you might need any other assistance or info, and good luck.

GE gas oven spectra xl44 takes forever to preheat &sometimes will not

The way the oven works is like so:
1) User sets the desired temperature
2) Power is sent to the ignitor
3) The ignitor is then energized, drawing 3.2 amps of current
4) When the 3.2 amps is drawn, the gas safety valve is allowed to open and gas flows into the burner assembly in the oven.
5) This gas is then ignited, causing the oven to heat.
6) As the oven heats up, the oven sensor, which is the metal rod located at the top on the rear oven wall, converts the heat into an electrical signal, relaying this information to the main control which in turns displaying the temperature.
(In models with a dial thermostat, there won't be a sensor, though a metal wire with a bulbous end will be present, which is actually connected to the thermostat.)
Will all that said, more than likely the ignitor is bad in the oven, not drawing enough amperage to allow the safety valve to open. Even though the ignitor is lighting up and glowing, I'm 99% certain that this is the problem. Here is the part number for ignitor. WB2X9154 and can be ordered from any parts distributor or from a local supplier.

Hello Everett,

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake ignitor is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake ignitor(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when set to bake ignitor by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of ignitor make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than that replace bake ignitor. If you dont have amp meter take my word for it since in my 30 years appliance repair career i have when the ignitor comes on, that it's weak, to be the problem 100% of the time

Ignitor for oven comes on but gas release cuilds up before oven ignites causing a voom

I have a Kenmore Gas Range, model 72503. #1 problem-the orficies were not installed properly; #2 problem-when I turn the top burners on, gas comes out before the ignitor comes on. I called Sears, they sent someone who said that the burners can't be adjusted. I feel this is very dangerous. This is a new 2011 model, made for Sears by Frigidaire. Who should I contact about this problem. Sears say it is out of their hands. Help!

The oven will not light on my Whirlpool gas oven Mod SF368LEPQ 2. The stove top burners still light.

Sounds like you need an bake element ignitor if the bake doesn't work but if the broil also doesn't work, it could be the electronic clock/timer control. the part number for the bake ignitor is 8054129 .Best off to call a reliable service company such as Sears.

Oven will not ignite, it is approx. 8 yrs old. 2 years ago the ignitor was changed for a similar problem. Everything works on stove even the broiler. Very dissapointed in the GE profile since I have had...

Jim your ignitor has gone bad once again.
You can turn off the gas supply, remove the oven racks, remove the oven base pan, remove the flame spreader to access the ignitor.
Place a clamp on amp meter over one wire of the ignitor and turn the control on for bake. If the ignitor does not glow at all. It is bad. If it glows and reads 3 amps or less on the amp meter it is still bad.
A proper functioning ignitor will light and re-light the burner in 45 seconds or less.

Where do I light my gas oven?

Hello Slacker3158 how old is this oven? I only ask as GE hasn't built a standing Pilot range in over 18 yrs. The issue may be a bad oven ignitor. Put the oven on broil, if it works then the bake ignitor is bad. It is found under the bottom of the oven. There is 2 to 4 screws inside the oven that allows the bottom to be removed.

Oven GE GAS Model JGSP44AEV3AA will not light

Once the ignitor starts to glow the oven should light within 20-30 seconds. If it doesn't then the ignitor is too weak and needs to be replaced. These are usually easy to replace by taking it loose and splicing in the new one. You can view a diagram, price, and part # at http://www3.sears.com/. You will need the entire model # from the sticker on the oven to look it up. On alot of models you can pull out the bottom drawer and disconnect the ignitor wiring and pull it out from inside the oven. Then just install the new one in the reverse order. This is the most common repair for ovens more than 3 yrs. old. Also, if the ignitor looks whitish instead of charcoal color this is a good indication that it needs to be replaced. Hope this helps.
