Re: Tv out of Focus
Well you did start out good, thats cool, now we have to define focus, Is ir blurry around the edges as well as the whole Picture? If it is, it could be the picture tube, A bad solder connection on the tube socket, and yes it could also be the flyback transformer.

There is a focus control on all CRT sets. It would be on the back of the set. It might be accessible or it might be inside which would involve removing the cover off the set. This is not recommended as there is very high voltage present in there. If it is accessible from the back without removing the cover there will likely be two little plastic knobs. One marked "F" for focus and the other one marked "S" for screen.........don't rotate the screen control, adjust the focus until your picture becomes clearer. If this doesn't help a whole lot then your picture tube might be shot and that means time for a new TV.
Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s) This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! See link for more detail http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html
There are 2 things you try. go into menu to picture setup scroll down to sharpness, back this setting all the off. If this doesn't do it, go to back of the set on right hand side, if you can see focus slot adjust it slightly.
Inside the set you should see a large part with a red wire coming out the top. That is the flyback transformer. There will be 1 or 2 controls on the back of it. One should be labeled screen and one focus. Carefully adjust the focus one until the picture is again in focus. Please note that in that area are high voltages (33,000V) that can be dangerous. Be careful where you touch. IT is best to have a mirror so you can see the picture while adjusting the focus control.
sounds like your set is out of focus
You have to take the back off
with the set running adjust the top control on the horizontal out transformer either up or down till the letters are OK.
it is the transformer with the lead comming out of the top which goes to the picture tube.
you can take the back off find your flyback (the big part with a red or pink wire going to the picture tube) and adjust the small pot or potentiometer closest to the top while the set is on in front of a mirror and try adusting the focus control.
if cant get nothing but blur replace the fly or focus assembly if not built in the fly. I would change both.
