There is no much of anything can go wrong, if you can do electric. 2 wires and push on knob.

I have replaced Decora dimmers with the Adorne dimmers not the lighting is emmiting a high frequency noise in the mid dimming range. The lighting is 20/35 watt halogen lamps. Why and how can I fix this?

They design dimmers for either incondescent lighting or fan motor controls. Always check which one you purchased. You can't use the motor control dimmer on lighting and vice versa. Even if you purchased the correct dimmer remember that it is for incondescent lighting only (ordinary light bulb). Incondescent lights have a resistance whereas fluorescent has a capacitance and an inductance. Halogen lamps may have a capacitance and an induction too and are creating havoc with the mosfet transistor inside the dimmer. This can also cause the dimmer to fail. Read the instructions on the dimmer to see what type of lighting is allowed.

Where can i buy a 230 volt 120 watt wire in touch dimmer for a table lamp

Are you sure you need a 230 volt dimmer in your table lamp? If this is being used in the US or Canada, it is more likely to be a 120 volt lamp. I think you will have trouble finding a 230 volt dimmer.

No power from switch to light fixture

I'm an electrician and can help you with this problem. Assuming that this dimmer was installed correctly because it had been functioning properly earlier, the short answer is that the switch has failed.

Dimmer switches are solid state devices, not unlike a modern stereo receiver. Like the receiver, it uses components called transistors and rectifiers to control power that can and do eventually fail. Installing lamps with a total wattage greater than the dimmer is designed to operate will cause it to fail prematurely. Most dimmers are rated for 600 watts, unless marked otherwise. Dimmers are used to control incandescent lamps (those with a filament - unless a compact fluorescent lamp package states it can be dimmed) only. Dimmers are not suited to control the speed of a motor (as is often found in the case of a ceiling paddle fan / light fixture). Use of them in this way creates excessive heat at the motor that can cause a fire.

If you are trying to use the dimmer in these conditions detailed above, it will be a cause for premature failure. Likewise, accidental shorting of the output of the dimmer will cause it to fail instantly.

You will likely need to replace the switch with a dimmer or standard toggle switch to gain control of the load again. If after correcting an excessive wattage load or removing a motor from the output of the switch - and trying a dimmer again, be sure to shut the power to the switch off before wiring and follow the instructions.

If you are installing this dimmer to replace and existing switch or dimmer, please provide more details including the switch manufacturer's name and model, the type and size of load being controlled, number of wires, etc.

The first thiing I suggest is checking the installation instructions (either included with the ballast or on-line) of the ballast you just purchased. Many fluorescent ballasts require that the lamps be wired in series - which I believe is what you had before. One lamp connects between the red & the yellow, the other connects between the yellow & the blue. Other fluorescent ballasts require that the lamps be wired in parallel - which may be what you have now (both lamps connect between the red & the blue). The installation instruction sheets should designate the appropriate wiring configuration.

That being said, just double-check one thing: Make sure the new ballast is rated for 2-lamps. Ballasts rated for 1-lamp will only include the red & the blue (no yellow). So I know you sad you already checked with the destributor, but double-check that one point.

I saw your post on - I have done repair of the Lytemode units a few times. Both the dimmers and the controllers. If the memory is not working that is the control unit. If the unit will not turn off, the LM-2000 dimmer might have a shorted SCR and that makes the unit stay on. Let me know if you still need help on this problem.

I'm using a Cooper Master Dimmer with a Cooper toggle type 3 way switch circuit controlling one incandescent light fixture. My home is 30 years old and I've found many deviations from acceptable wiring...

The problem is most likely not the dimmer or the wiring, but rather the existing 3-way switch.

First of all, the Aspire smart dimmer does not work in conjunction with traditional, 3-way, on/off toggle switches. When the 3-way switch is in one-position, it lets the dimmer work, but in the other position, it cuts power to the entire lighting circuit - and the smart dimmer is NOT going to be able to override that. You instead need to get the corresponding remote dimmer (sometimes called a slave, or a companion dimmer), and use that to replace the standard 3-way switch.

That may also solve your "mystery turn-on" issue. Even though those dimmers can use the existing 3-way switch wiring, you have to REALLY pay attention to the instruction sheets to see how the master and the slave wire up to each individual electrical box. I vaguely remember that even if you were to use the product in a single-pole application, those two wires that, I assume, you attached to the traveller wires in the house needed to be shorted together in order to work - and since you have them running into a 3-way switch, the errors that you're seeing are bound to happen.

Long story short, get the slave dimmer, install it according to the instructions, and all these problems should go away.

Trying to install lsdc163pwv for ceiling light operated by 2 different switches. Install box is through switch with black common hot wire, red and black travelers and 2 white neutrals and grounds . New...

Found a .pdf file that shows LSDC163pwv ... it does not show wiring for LSDC. It shows wiring for other 3-way dimmers & separate wiring for 3-way fan control. This is a clue.

The Pass and Seymour download page does not load, so I can't see specific manual.

Let me provide what I know:
-Instructions might be confusing because LSDC works for both single-pole and 3-way circuits ... which probably adds a lot of extra wording in manual
-LSDC Device has single-pole/3-way dimmer (this requires 3 wires)
-Device has single-pole/3-way fan control with 3 speeds (which requires 3 wires)
-That's 6 total wires
-If I understand correctly, you just want to control a ceiling light? -And you do not have a fan? And your ceiling light is set up with 3-way switches.
-IF you are also wanting to control a fan in addition to the light, the box will need separate wires that go specifically to the fan >> your description shows that you do not have separate wires for the fan. Is this correct?
-Without separate wires to the fan, you can still control the light ... but if wires to light also turn the fan on-and-off, then the LSDC is not the right control since a dimmer for lights will not work on both fan and light.
To wire the light:
-You have identified black common wire for light (it is connected to dark-colored screw on 3-way switch)
-You have identified travelers that connect the 3-way switches
-The neutral wires seem to be twisted together at back of box.
-I think the dimmer is located on the top, and fan control is bottom?? Not 100% sure >>>
-Question: are there 3 wires that are associated with dimmer?
-If you can see 3 wires for dimmer, one of those wires should be black ... just hook that to common, and hook other 2 wires to travelers ... and see if it works. If not, keep connecting them until correct combination is found.

Tip- I read a lot of electrical part manuals, and when confused, I write out the instructions so it breaks down the information.

Correct, assuming red and black are connected to the breakers in the breaker panel, and white is connected to the neutral/ground buss bar in the breaker panel.

End of Run Dimmer Switch Installation

The store doesn't know what they are talking about. And I can't believe they told you to just keep switching wires. Hitting the wrong wires is an easy way to short the dimmer switch out. Take it back and go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the same type switch you took out.

Need help hooking up a single pole Leviton dimmer switch

hook up the red to red
black to black
green to bare wire
tie white wire to other whites in back of switch box in the wall.
If no whites in there cap it off with a wire connector.
