You may need to take the cartridges back to the place you bought them and they should test them and see if it is the cartridges or your printer may be messed up. Make sure they are the right cartridges and that they were put in correctly because the printer may not be able to send the right printing information to the cartridges.

Perform printhead cleaning from the computer at least 3x consecutively (alignment is different).

If the colors are still missing after you have run 3 consecutive cleaning cycles, your printer will require service.

Since you already tried replacing the cartridges and still have the same problem and also you already done alot of alignment and cleaning, did you uninstall and reinstall the printer software of better yet use a updated driver for it to make sure this is not a software related problem...

Black ink will not print

Have you tried setting the color to black cartridge only. You may be printing the black with a combination of colored inks. I occasionally have a similar problem. Sometimes I can get the black to work by taking a paper towel dampened with distilled water and holding it against the cartridge print head until I see black ink coming out. Replace the cartridge and try printing again. If this doesn't work try a new cartridge and run through your Printer Settings, making sure they are all set properly.

This happens regularly in some models when the alignment of paper is not done correctly. If the cartridge does not have a good print quality, the scanner can not correctly read the alignment and alignment repeated several times until you get it right.
Check the alignment with cartridges in excellent condition.

I ran out of both black and color ink. I replaced the black ink b/c I do not print in color. But I cannot complete the alignment steps without the color ink.

Lexmark printers usually require both cartridges to have ink left in them to continue printing. But try to press the Cancel button for the Alignment process (this is not recommended). Then try to print a document again to verify that you are able to continue printing without an empty color ink.
If that doesn't help, I would suggest you replace your color cartridge with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge.

I have installed a new black cartridge but print is not clear. i think i need to realign cartridges but dont know how. it is a lexmark x73. can you pls help

1 Select Print Control Program Cartridges Align Cartridges. For help, see page 8.
An alignment page prints and the Align Cartridges dialog box displays on the screen.
A number appears under each pattern. The test page that prints is similar to the one
shown.
2 For each alignment group on the test page, find the number that comes closest to
forming a straight line.
3 In the Align Cartridges dialog box, enter the numbers you selected on the test page.
4 After you have entered a number for all of the patterns, click OK.

I have replaced both my color and black cartrigages for my x2500 printer, restarted the computer, and it is still giving me an empty cartrigage message

is this a pc or mac?

for windows general make sure you folowed these steps:

  1. Click Start, Programs, Lexmark Series.
  2. Click Lexmark Control Panel.
  3. Click Print Cartridge installation.
  4. Depending on which cartridges you are using and which printer model you have, select Install Color Cartridge or Install Black Cartridge or Install Photo Cartridge.
  5. Carefully remove the tape covering the printhead of the print cartridge. Important: Be sure to remove all of the tape. Do not touch the copper area on the back of the cartridge.
  6. Insert the print cartridge into the print cartridge carrier.
  7. Push the cartridge back until it clicks into place.
    • If the print cartridge moves loosely in the carrier, it is not locked into place. Repeat step 7.
  8. Click the appropriate Cartridge Installed option in the printer software.
    • If you choose to install a new print cartridge, you will be prompted to align your print cartridges. The printer will print a page with a bi-directional alignment pattern. Follow these steps to align the cartridges:
      1. On the printed test page, locate the number under the Bi-directional Alignment pattern that comes closest to forming a straight line.
      2. Enter the number as the Bi-directional Alignment setting in the Alignment Cartridge screen.
      3. Click OK.
  9. Close the front cover of the printer.

Cartridge alignment

So if the magenta or yellow are not showing up, it may mean you have installed an empty (or dried up) color cartridge. If you have it, put the "low" volume color cartrige back in and print an alignment page. If you don't have the cartridge, no problem, just print a page from Google. Don't worry about the alignment until you print from Google. See if color is even available. ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"
