Question about Sony VAIO VGN-FJ270/B Notebook

CDRW/DVD ROM Drive

In my SONY VAIO notebook I have a combination CDRW/DVD drive. The drive reads and plays CD's without a problem, but if you put a DVD in the drive it just spins the disc and NOTHING else happens. I just upgraded the hard drive, could this be a problem with theDVD decoder software? I thought I installed a decorder that I had downloaded? How can I tell? What should I do to troubleshoot the probem?

Thanks,

Joe Doyle

I would suggest trying WinDVD and see if that works. If so, then yes, it would be a decoder issue.

How to Boot Sony Vaio VGN-S460 Laptop without CD/DVD ROM and With bootable USB

If the BIOS does not have the USB as one of the boot options then you cannot boot up with an USB memory stick.
In this case you need to replace the CD/DVD drive with a new one.

The DVD Rom won't able to read DVD, but has no problem for CDs.

Hello,

Verify that you have a dvd-rom drive and not a cd-rw drive. If you do have the correct drive, you may need to reinstall your DVD Decoder software. After this is done and a reboot, you should be able to read dvds.

OS is Windows XP Professional CD drive will not reconize a DVD+R for recording data. The drive is a HL-D-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244.

A CDRW/DVD is a CD-burner and DVD-ROM combined unit. It is not meant to record DVDs only CDs.

It will not recognise a blank DVD as it is unable to read any file system.

The dvd rom drive does not read nor write

Sounds like it could be a faulty drive. Will it play any CD/DVD like a data or music one?
