Question about NAD C370 2-Channel Amplifier

1 Answer

Nad C370 Hi, I have a NAD C370 that goes into protection after around 30 mins, sometimes more or less depending if the volume is higher or lower. I found this article... http://www.pithed.org/2007/10/12/nad-c370-protection-circuit-repair-amp-fails-goes-into-protection-mode/# these are the same symptoms as mine. I have changed the 3 capacitors nearest to the diode on the protection circuit as suggested on there. I also moved the diode to opposite side of the board as suggested, in the hope that it wouldn't happen again. However, the amp will stay on for a bit longer, it still has the same problem. Do you have any ideas about what could potentially be causing the problem? Do you think it is still a problem with the protection circuit? Any help or pointers you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Kindest regards, Gareth

Since the problem seems to be sensitive to the volume level, I would be looking at the output wave form for any DC current. Although the protection circuit should detect any DC present, it is possible that some is leaking through. Also, verify that the speaker impedence is correct. If the amp is seeing too low an impedence load, it will work too hard causing excessive heat which will shutdown the unit as well.

Keep me posted.

Check the speaker wiring for shorts, a common problem. If everything checks out there may be bad solder joints on the main board especially in the output stage, or there is a fault in one or more driver transistors.

Losing one channel, comes back if you move the volume switch around then goes again ?

Hi,

That must be a dirty volume control (potmeter).
Or there's a lose contact on the PCB which is soldered to your volume control (potmeter).

Losing the right channel

usually this would indicate a dry joint inside or some other temp related intermittent fault, component problem. Take it to a tech and tell them what happens

No power at all on NAD C370

User manual here

Read page nine for some simple troubleshooting tips and see if that helps.

It *could* be a fuse but given you've owned it for a while and NAD amps often have capacitor issues in the power supply, chances are it needs some serious work by a good tech. Contact NAD directly and see what they recommend.

HELP PLEASE. NAD 370 JUST DIED...

This could be as simple as a bad connection at the voltage regulator IC or blown output transistors. If you have a multimeter and some experience with electronics repair, this should be fairly straightforward.

Let me know and I'll try to walk you throught the repair.

NAD C370 in protection mode

With closed eyes -replace all capacitors on protection PCB All of those caps are overheated and dry out (they lost there capacidance).Note that capacidance meter will not help you at all. Now unit will work. BUT!!! Most important!!! Check four big filter capacitors in the middle of unit!!!! If they are white (NAD 10000uF/80V) DO NOT USE UNIT AT ALL!!!! FIRE HAZARD!!!!! Contact me...
