Justin, the cause is a failed water inlet valve (behind the fridge, near the floor). The solution is to replace the valve.

The part number of your valve is 4389177 and it lists for ~$65.00. You can find one at a local appliance parts outlet or order it online. (actually, the valve kit comes with instructions =) )

Easy to replace. Pull out the fridge, unplug it and turn the water off at the wall. Now use a 1/4" socket or nut driver and remove all the screws holding that cardboard cover in place. Now remove the water hose from the valve and remove the 2 screws that mount the valve to the fridge. Pull the valve out and notice how it's wired and how the plumbing is done. Then simply wire in and put the tubing on the new valve and rebuild everything.

Job time? About half an hour. Good luck and don't sweat it, this repair is a snap.

My icemaker went on the blink, found water all over kitchen floor now it will not make ice but the freezer functions great. Model number ED2FHAXB04

Sometimes the water inlet are of an ice maker for no reason will freeze up preventing water from reaching the tray and making a mess. What will happen is the ice maker fill tube on the back of the cabinet also freezes up. As a result the icemaker tries to cycle pressure then builds up in the plastic feed line to the fill tube. This pressure build up in a very "low pressure" plastic line causes that plastic line to push itself out of the press to fit connections (fittings) at the back of the unit or under the unit. Hence the next cycle it just ports water to the now open line causing water to go to the floor instead of the icemaker.

You can locate the source of the leak by simply following the plastic fill tube and re-insert it into the fitting. You still need to find the ice build up that caused the initial leak and melt that ice buildup with a hair dryer or a fan until it is clear. Once you clear the ice blockage (near the rear of the icemaker) it should work normally again.

Water is freezing in the tube feeding into the ice maker. What could be the cause?

Generally the cause is a defective water valve that feeds the icemaker.
The water valve is allowing a small amount of water to leak past the seat. The water then slowly drips down the icemaker fill tube and freezes in the tube causing a blockage of ice to fill the diameter of the fill tube.

Replace the water valve.
Clean or replace the water supply valve that supplies the house water to the water valve on the ref.
This will ensure trouble free ice maker operation.

Icemaker not making ice. Water supply is good, turned on icemaker; solenoid resistance is 338 Ohms. Can't blow through plastic water supply tube at back of refrigerator. Supply valve screen had some...

Good day,
First, measuring the coil Resistance doesn't work. A valve can measure fine, but refuse to open.
First, shut the water off to the house at the meter. remove the line from the valve, put the line into a bucket, and have someone turn the water valve on full for a 15 second or so count. The water must come out and strongly.
Unlike an automatic washer, the ice maker is a time fill. 7 seconds period.
Second, it is not unusual for the file tube that runs from the back of the machine and into the back of the ice maker to ice up.
Common problem, and is caused by the water valve on the back rear of the machine to leak slowly on the off cycle. Water valve must be replaced with new.
Remove the ice maker to inspect that fill tube. If iced, thaw out.
Beware of hair dryers. Too much heat can cause serious problems if plastic and/or vinyl parts get melted.
I don't recommend heat. A pain, but unplug the machine for 12 hours with the freezer door open.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze and can't go where it's supposed to. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Maytag fridge no water to icemaker any suggestions

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into ice maker . If it freezes and dumps , replace the water valve . If it does not dump , replace the icemaker . Also make sure the coils are clean beneath refrig , and the clear fill tube , which fills the icemaker , is clear of ice (not frozen up ).

My Kenmore icemaker seems to be leaking water under the icemaker and it drips and freezes

If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.

If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.

I ice maker keeps freezing in our side by side GE fridge.

This annoying problem can have a variety of causes. Check these four things first:
  1. Make sure the water supply is greater than 20 psi. If too low, thewater valve won’t seat properly and it’ll “weep.” Common causes of lowpressure are gunked-up saddle tap valves, kinked water supply line, andusing a reverse osmosis filter to supply water to the icemaker.
  2. Check between the valve diaphram and valve seat for sediment. If found, do not attempt to repair, buy a new valve.
  3. Check to see if the black, flexible portion of the fill tube iswrinkled, twisted, or kinked which can cause ice dams that block thefill tube.
  4. Find out if the water has been shut off while the icemaker has kepton cycling. This, too, can cause the fill tube to freeze up.
If all the above checks out and you’re still getting fill tube freeze-ups,then best get a service guy to take a look. It could be a complicated repair.

Ice maker isn't filling with water. Water is on and ice maker is on. It's been humid.

Likely that the water supply tube to the icemaker is frozen. It will be a white rubber tube on the right side of the icemaker. Warm it with a hair dryer, remove it from its aluminum tubing, and make sure there is no ice all the way back to where the supply tube comes from the water valve. After thawing, your icemaker should start working again.

Now..... why did it freeze? Most likely, there is a restricted airflow to the back of the unit, which is need to keep that aluminum supply tube just warm enough to assure all the water flow OUT of it into the icemaker, and doesn't freeze up on contact. Make sure your coils and the airspace under the fridge are completely clean (vacuuum them well) and it should cure the problem.

Icemaker Fill Tube Freezing Make sure the water supply is greater than 20 psi. If too low, the water valve won't seat properly and it'll "weep." Check to see if the black, flexible portion of the fill tube is wrinkled, twisted, or kinked which can cause ice dams that block the fill tube. It turns out that the manufacturer's have been scratching their heads about this, too, and have concluded that the new fill tube air slit design helps prevent this problem.
