You can always try the towel trick for a 4-5 day fix if needed. First you take all disks and cods out. EVEN WIRLESS ADAPTER! Next you plug the power cord back in. Wrap your xbox in 2 towels for about 25 min. By the time you come back to it. It will hvae already shut off because of overheating. This is good because it melts the video card back into place. After unwrapping the towels, let it coopl, and then you can play.

Part 2: Different ways to play videos on Xbox 360

codecs100401.jpg

With regard to playback videos from a USB storage device, please note that the Xbox 360 will support as big of a storage device as you can format using FAT32, and the maximum size of any single file on FAT32 is 4GB. Besides that, the maximum file size for an AVI, MPEG-4 Part 2, and H.264 file that can be played is 4 GB as well. To play a file greater than 4GB on Xbox 360, you can use Windows Media Player 11 and the Zune software to stream videos from your PC to Xbox 360 console, and notice that the file format must be WMV only. Why is it so special with a WMV file? That maybe WMV is a codec developed by Microsoft.

Well, that is to say, to some extent, we can consider WMV as the optimal format to play or stream to Xbox 360. When you are gonna watch a Blu-ray/DVD movie, or an MKV video, or some files else that are out of the range of Xbox 360 workable formats, what is your solution? We usually make use of Pavtube Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate to do format conversion. Why do we choose it? Mainly because of its splendid output quality and its feature of an all-in-one application: a Blu-ray ripper, a DVD ripper, and a versatile video converter.

Part 3: How to convert Blu-ray/DVD and videos to WMV for play/stream on/to Xbox 360

We have mentioned in the above contents that the program we will use is Pavtube Blu-ray Video Converter Ultimate. Go to find a step-by-step instruction from the following part.

total100402.jpg

STEP 1: Load Blu-ray, DVD or other video files into this program

Click "Add Video" to import video files, and click "Load DVD" to import Blu-ray or DVD files.

STEP 2: Select subtitle and audio track

Click on the pull down menu after "Subtitle" and "Audio" respectively to select your needed subtitle and audio track as your choice. Your selection can be reviewed in the preview window to the right hand of the main interface.

STEP 3: Select WMV as output format for Xbox 360

Click on the drop-down list at the opposite side of "Format", and then choose "WMV3 (WMV9) (*.wmv)" as output format.

wmv100402.jpg

STEP 4: Do optimal settings for the output WMV files

Click on "Settings" button, and afterwards you can adjust audio and video parameters including video/audio codec, resolution, video/audio bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channel on the popup window. To make it excellent for playback on Xbox 360, you can follow the optimal settings as below:

Video codec: wmv3 (the default one)
Resolution: 1920*1080
Bitrate: 150 kbps
Frame rate: 30 fps

Audio codec: wmav3 (the default one)
Sample rate: 48 khz
Bitrate: 320 kbps
Channels: 5.1 Channels

Do remember clicking "OK" button to confirm your settings.

STEP 5: Click "Convert" button to start BD/DVD ripping or video conversion

Once finished, click "Open" button at the bottom to get the output WMV files for Xbox 360, which now is prepared for playback or streaming.

Part 4: How to stream videos to Xbox 360

Well, as we have mentioned in Part 2, there are at least four ways to stream videos to Xbox 360, from Windows Media Center, Windows Home Server, Windows Media Player 11, and Zune Software. Actually, lots of online articles have detailed the setups and operating steps, just check the following links to find the one which is most suitable for you:

How to stream videos to Xbox 360 via Windows Media Center

How to stream videos to Xbox 360 via Windows Home Server

My xbox 360 shows no video or audio, and ive done all the "usual" things to try and fix it

Hi the problem you are having will lead to the red ring of death, you get the rrod when the gpu and cpu chip have over heated, as you get the sound and no picture or loss of both this says that the gpu is over heating and needs fixing.
you can try the following
1 switch the xbox off and leave it off for at least an hour
2 check all air vents are free from dust
3 make sure your not using the xbox on carpet or on top of anything like dvd or sky box
any of the above will cause it to over heat so make sure the xbox is not in a confined spaced and not on top of anything else

remove the leads from back of xbox and remove hard drive, plug all the leads back in making sure the leads are pushed in properly in the xbox and back of telly, then if you still have the problem try and borrow a friends video lead to try on your xbox.

if it still dont work then this suggests it has over heated and the damage is done so check if you have any warranty before you do anything with it, then if you have warranty take it back and get it exchanged or if your warranty it out you need to get the gpu and cpu heat sink changed and the x clamps removed and getting this done should get it working.

but you need to know that say out of every 10 i do work on only 2 wont work and would be classed as scrap, i repair these for about 25 quid plus parts which is about a fiver so your looking at roughly them prices to get it fixed, i work on the basis that if i dont fix the problem i wont charge for the work i just charge for the parts used.

let me know if you need further assistance

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

I have no video and no audio

If your Xbox 360 does not have display you need to stop the heat getting to the chips. You can actually do this yourself as many have in this forum using the recommended Xbox 360 Repair guide.

Basically the guide will show you how to stop the heat build up with videos and household items, of course if you are in doubt send it in.

It has a preview video on the website.

Or of course you can send it in to have it fixed.

Obviously check your lead connections first as well.

Using a new hdmi lead but no sound for xbox 360

You still have to plug in the audio from the RCA cables (the red, white and yellow) Red and white are audio, yellow is video, i would just plug all 3 in.

No sound from my xbox 360

You cant have HDMI and the xomponent cables pluged in at the same time.
to get audio to your monitor you will need an xbox 360 audio adapter. You can find that here. http://www.xbox.com/en-us/hardware/x/xbox360hdmiavcable/default.htm

That comes with the HDMI and audio adapter.
You can probabaly find it seperate somewhere else.

I hope this helps.
