Question about Phones

I do not have a dial tone, and when someone tries to call me, it goes directly into my voice mail. This just happened today sometime, I used my phone earlier. I don't know if I pushed a button or what.

Sounds like your phone system is disconnected somewhere. Check the wiring from the connect box that enters the house and trace it forward.

There's no dial tone -- what do I do to fix this?

It's possible the "tip" and "ring" are reversed, sometimes that'll block dial-tone. Try another jumper between your wall jack and the phone. You should also try a different phone plugged into that jack to make sure it's ok.

Need to turn the voicemail indicator back on & get rid of beeping dial tone.

You apparently have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when someone calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.

We have an old toshiba phone system and our phone sevice told us we have a routing problem. We have 3 lines and the only number that rings now is our 3nd rollover line. It does not go to out main number...

Phone service? You probably have a Strata VI box in the back, but the pilot number and all of the hunting is part of the dial tone provider's equipment. Somewhere on the side of the box, you should be able to unplug all outside lines and plug single line phones or test the lines with no equipment on them. If the first line rolls to line 3 all by itself, then call the dial tone provider and have them test the group. You have to make sure you're not shorting out the lines. In fact, if you can get dial tone on lines 1 2 and 3, then it tends to make it their problem and not your Toshiba system.

Cannot clear message on handset that says I have a voice message.

I resolved the problem but I'm not 100% sure of how I did it. If it happens again I'll try it again. I left the answering machine OFF so the Voice Mail would take any messages. A friend phoned and left a message in the VOICE MAIL, I knew this because of the broken dial tone when I went to make a call. When I erased his message the 'New Voice Message' displayed on the handset disappeared. I figure a previous caller hung up just after the voice mail picked up. It was not long enough so it did not register in the voice mail but somehow registered on the GE phone. Since there wasn't anything registered in the VOICE MAIL to erase the message was 'stuck' on the handset display. As soon as there was a message registered in the VOICE MAIL that could be erased it also cleared the message on the handset.

As i mentioned, if it happens again I'll try it to see if it works, until then I am not going to tempt fate.

RCA Model 25204 2 line speakerphone corded with call waiting caller ID

As bsmither said, how voice mail is accessed is very dependent on your phone company and how they've set things up. They would be the best place to ask about any problems you're having there.

As for programming the voice mail buttons on the 25204, I was confused by that one as well until I finally figured it out. Specializations aside, they're just speed dial buttons, and are programmed in exactly the same way as the ones along the right side of the phone. RCA could have documented that detail better than they did.

In my case, with Vonage, I just programmed the buttons with the numbers for the lines that they're associated with. When they dial and I'm connected to the voice mail system, I'm prompted for my VM password, which I then enter manually.

Voice mail

Do your Dial tone sound different. Your phone listens to the dial tone. if you have a new voice mail your dial tone changes.and your phone does the flashy thing accordingly. Contact your phone company.
