I have had two zunes in the past year both with the same problem... my first zune used to say "the item is missing or cannot be played". So my first instinct was to connect it to the computer and re-sync. That only worked about three times. Then my zune completely crapped out, so I returned it to zune for a replacement. I then deleted all the content pertaining to my first zune from my dad's lab top.
Okay, now for my second zune( the replacement that microsoft gave me). It just started to do the same as my first one. It keeps telling me that "the item is missing or cannot be played". I tried doing the same as I did to my last zune but it didn't work. Is there another alternative or do I have to replace my zune yet again?

the problem with the zune is that its own by microsoft and you cannot sync music without the software however there is a zune forum that you can check out for advice on how to use the software better.. zune.net then check out the forums
As a last resort or if you are receiving error code C00D2772, erase the
device, and then sync your content again. To do this, follow these
Start the Zune software on the computer.
Connect your Zune device by using the Zune Sync Cable.
Click Settings, and then click device.
Click SYNC OPTIONS, and then click ERASE ALL CONTENT.
When you receive the following message, click Yes:
Please Confirm. Are you sure you want to erase the contents of the connected Zune?

This stuff just recently started happening to a lot of us... My **** started acting up yesterday... First was giving me some sort of error telling me it cant access my zune please disconnect and try reconnecting........ Now I am getting the same error you guyz have been getting talking about reformating.... i am going to call tech support today EVEN though I know their lame solution will be just to reformat... The Zune software lets you add to your collection audio and video in a variety of formats and codecs. Just download media from the Web or rip songs from a CD, and the Zune software automatically adds the downloaded (and ripped) items to your collection and syncs them to your device.
The Zune software will convert many video formats during sync so they can play on your Zune device. This automatic transcoding can take a while.
There is a way and none of your solutions work. There is a software you can download and use as a Hack but the problem is that is does not work with Windows XP/Vista/7...Windows Media Player does not recognize the Zune as a devioce or a player, just like Windows will not recognize it as a storage drive in Windows Explorer. You would figure with Zune being a Microsoft Product, that it would work well with other MS products but they screwed up somewhere and did not get the memo that Zune is a MS product
