KSRS27QGWH - Frequent defrosting needed for ice delivery system

In the summer, I have to defrost my KitchenAid ice maker delivery system every 7-10 days, or it will only spit out ice chips because of the frost buildup. I have gotten very proficient at defrosting through repetition.

The freezer gasket appears to be fine and the chute door/flapper still fits flush against the bottom of the chute. The problem seems to be a little worse every summer. Suggestions?

Which door?? This is my first experience and I hope it's not typical. This person took no time and probably less thought to answer this AND it sound like they stopped in the middle of a sentence.

    NOT HAPPY YET.

Get it checked to some proper technician as its the problem of ventilations as if somewhere air is getting leaked or somewhere it is getting blocked.mostly the ventilations area r below the frost trays or any of the doors are not getting properly closed so giving such problems.

thanks.

You probably have a bad seal on the with the door. Try replacing that rubber strip and see if the problem still continues, I'm betting that moisture is leaking through more and more because of the age

The main outer door, I'm sorry if my initial solution was short and confusing but the rubber seal that is around the main doors of the unit, if broken can let in moisture which then condenses and forms ice and as the seal gets worse, the ice build up will become worse. Let me know if you are in any way confused or have any questions about what I am talking about or how to go about working on this

Why do we hear a water draining noise on kitchenaid superba?

Hello Mari;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You have a condensate drain in the back bottom of your freezer for when you go through a self defrost mode. The defrost mode is so gradual there is not enough water flow to make a noise.

What you are hearing is your ice maker filling with water. Your ice maker will fill 8-10 times within a 24 hour period.

I have a kitchenaid side by side refrigerator model #KSSC42MFS05 and the freezer isn't getting cold enough to freeze ice cream and the ice maker isn't working.

Look at the rear wall of the freezer for a layer of frost building on the outside of that panel. If yes the refrigerator may be missing defrost. That would explain why the feezer temperatures are warming. If the ice maker is above 5 degrees F it will not be able to make ice. Things to check are the=> 2162044 Defrost Timer

I would like you to locate the defrost timer and turn the center with a flathead screwdriver slowly clockwise until compressor and fans turn off. Leave like this up to 30 minutes. This will cause the defrost to begin. If timer does not restart the compressor an fans after 30 minutes simply turn the timer again slowly clockwise until the compressor and fans restart. If the timer need to be turned like this then this would indicate that the defrost timer is defective and will need replaced. Let me know if you have questions Thanks Sea Breeze

It's either the ice tray leaking , In witch case you should replace it , Or the water inlet valve is is sticking open and overfilling the tray, in this case you will need to replace the valve behind the refrigerator where the hose connects. Good luck

Good day,
It's become a common problem on newer machines with less frequent defrost cycles and for a shorter period of time.
The following clip, as you scroll down will see the most exotic procedure. You may not have to go that far.
Using a length of #14 bare copper wire, and wrapping it around the heater and inserting it into the drain hole will usually work. You will need to remove the heater to perform this process properly, and I prefer to wrap the copper close together, each wrap touching the last one. Your call.

Your machine is a product of Whirlpool which makes many brands, all of them with the same basic system.
