Question about Tomtom ONE 3rd Edition GPS

1 Answer

Spinning display The display will start spinning. It's almost like it loses it's position. It then tries and recalculates but it doesn't make any sense. Eventually, it 'finds itself' and gets back on track. This happens sporadically and it doesn't matter if we are near a traffic light or near near wires, etc. I sent the description to TomTom support and I updated the application as directed. When I used it again, same problem. Not all the time, it's sporadic and I can't find a common thread when it happens.

Itcould be that the windscreen on your car has a heating element or some coating that is causing the receiver to have poor reception. You could try and external ariel (they are available as an option)

Why does my Garmin 2595LMT not say "recalculation" when I go off route? It just picks up the route I'm on, so I don't know if I''m lost or not!

This happens " recalculation " but there are no roads near to you that you can drive on. Most Sat Navs will bring up " recalculation " when you are stopped in traffic, trys to help but it's only acting on it's settings

Garmin 1350 LM recalculating- started tut tutting noise, touch screen won't respond, and can't turn garmin off. Help!

Try connecting it to your computer. You will need to go to the Garmin site and download the software for your model. Then reset to factory settings, sometimes called Default settings.

After updating my garmin nuvi 205 it now directs me by saying "turn south or north" instead of "turn right or left", It also shows me off road and keeps recalculating. Do I need to...

It sounds like it is set for pedestrian use.
  • Press TOOLS
  • Press SETTINGS
  • Press SYSTEM
  • Press USAGE MODE
If it's not set to AUTOMOBILE then press AUTOMOBILE and it may solve your problem.

If that doesn't solve the problem it may be that the map is displayed as NORTH up rather than TRACK UP.
  • Press TOOLS
  • Press SETTINGS
  • Press MAP
  • Press MAP VIEW and select 3D
This may solve your problem.

Keeps recalculating route and rerouting

This may or may not help you.  If you are in area where the unit cannot get a signal it will tell you recalculating or if you are in area where it's maps are not up to date it may tell you the same thing. One other possible solution, shorten the trip, on a long trip the unit will/might find several possible routes and based on your settings it is unable to select just one route so it is choosing between two at the same time and it will keep recalculating until circumstances allow it to decide on just the ONE route.  Change some of your settings in the setup screen and see if that helps or if it is a long trip, break the trip up into smaller segmants. Hope this helps

While traveling to Nova Scotia last week, my Garmin Street Pilot c530 was telling that i was on an unpaved road, but i was on route 2 in New brunswick Canada

Don't believe everything you see on a GPS. Garmin does not update their maps as they should; I found this even after I purchased their map update. I drove 48 states in a big rig, over many new roads not found or shown on the Garmin maps. My streetpilot usually went into a hiccup mode, recalculating -- recalculating -- recalculating. All the while, it tried to get me to detour on whatever spurious local roads happened to show up along the way.

Nuvi not working properly

I had the same problem until i realized it was I myself who messed things up. What you probably did was change the settings to "pedestrian" and forgot to change it back to driving. When you set your system to pedestrian, it does not recalculate a new driving route because it assumes you can just walk there. (You can walk in any direction very easily, so no need to recalculate).

If your garmin is also sending you down a one way street, thats another tip you are on the pedestrian setting. (If your walking, you can walk down one way streets).

I am not sure however, what other types of weird things happen when you are on the bicycle setting, i havn't tried it yet. But i am positive you are trying to use your garmin on pedestrian, put it back on automobile. Let me know if it works, thx
