The 'protect' message indicates that the units thermal protection mechanism was activated and has cut output to the speakers. Causes vary, but the idea is that there is some problem with the impedence from the speakers to the power amplifier part of the receiver. Could be that the speakers are wired incorrectly or that they are just actually too powerful for the receiver to properly supply.

So check the speaker wiring for positive/negative polarity, frayed wires, disconnected wires, etc., or try to disconnect them all together and see if the receiver starts.

If not, other causes could be blown fuse (cranking the volume too load could blow a fuse). So you might want to check for any servicable fuses in the unit and replace any that are blown.

The thermal protect circut can just activate on its own and reset on its own. This might indicate that the unit is faulty or just got over heated (try moving the unit away from a heat source - or allowing proper airflow around it). If this circuit is faulty the unit could need repair.

Hope this helps.

The first thing I would do is take the cover off and blow it out with compressed air. Sometimes that's all it takes. If not, look for corrosion everywhere you can. If there is corrosion it will have to be removed. If it's on any legs of capacitor, all those capacitors need to be replaced. Other than that, I'm not familiar with it enough to pinpoint a particular failure from your description.

My Sony home theater DZ290K had a push power protection on the display screen how can I fix it?

The "PROTECT" and "PUSH POWER" messages will flash alternately when the protective device of the amplifier has been activated because a strong signal was input, or if there is a short-circuit detected. Press the POWER button on the unit to turn off the system, and check the following items after "STANDBY" disappears.

1) Are the + and - speaker cords short-circuited?
2) Are you using only the specified speakers?.
3) Is anything blocking the ventilation holes of the system?

My home theater system is showing push power protector on the read out and nothing is happening.

Push power protect is an error message that shows unit got some problem in output amplifier section and protection circuit is activated to avoid further damage.
Local tv repair shop will help you to fix it as unit will take apart and soldering work is also involved to replace bad amplifier output chips.

It says push power protector on my new sony surround system i cant do anything with it

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

Protect light

Protect means that an internal error, as a blown component, a short , or a wrong voltage had been detected.

Try unplugging the unot from all cables, including power cord, for ten minutes. If the unit is still on protection after restart, then you need to have the receiver taken apart and inspected by a technician.
