Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

MAC/QuarkXpress files I work for a school. i have a MAC G4 with OSX 10.3.9. i had OSX 10.2 until one of our IT guys upgraded it for me. right after that, Classic wouldn't open. ( i have such an old version of Photoshop that i still need classic). i was encountering other problems and getting error messages so IT decided to restore my mac. they brought me a thumb drive and said to move everything that i wanted to keep to the thumb drive. i did. then they discovered that the only thing wrong with my mac was the temporary file had been removed. so... everything was taken off the thumb drive and put back on the mac. Now...some of my quark 6.1 files open and some dont. i get a message saying "There is no default application specified to open the document 'program'. There is 2 buttons to choose from "cancel" or "choose application". If I "choose application" it takes me to the menu to choose an application to open it with but i am unsucessful in being able to find an application to open it with. I also have the same problem with the Microsoft "Word" files and some jpegs. Are all of these files lost forever or is there something i can do to fix them? Thanks....

Hi

If you highlight (one click) one of the Quark, JPEG or Word files, when you are on the desktop and then go to File - Get Info a window should open for the file you selected.

In the Info window about halfway down there should be the text "Opens with", in here you can select the application to open your document (most applications should be found in the Applications folder)

Also if you press the Change All button this will set the files to open up in the selected application the next time you click on one.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I need help with my Mac OSX Illustrator software problem.

Regardless of compatibility, the site is doing this illegally. Adobe does not allow it's software to be sold used nor does it let it's codes be sold. Buying from these guys will put you in a position of possibly being sued by Adobe.
Given that, CS4 upgrade will only upgrade from CS3 and CS2.
My suggestion is that you contact Adobe and see if they can offer you a solution more in keeping with legalities. They may accept a written request with inclusion of your original purchase invoice or they may allow you to trade the upgrade for the full package for the difference between the two.
It's your call.

On the left Top of your monitor is a apple Logo.Tip on it and select "About that Mac" A Window pops up and you select "More Info" it shows you the OSX on it. OSX 10.3 or OSX 10.4 Google "Safari Browser for OSX 10.? " Download it and it will work. You may have the latest Version.

I have a Mac G4 desktop. It froze up so I restarted using the power button and when it came up it had a blinking question mark inside a folder. It will not do anything even after restarting several times....

This means the mac can not find the system to start up, you can try holding down the alt key as you start the mac, this may bring up a choice of systems to boot from if not then try holding down the shift key at startup, as this will boot without extensions loading. If none of this works then you need the startup dvd that came with the mac, if you dont have it the you need a retail copy of the mac os that will boot your mac , if its g4 then osx 10.3 or 10 .4 will work.

cheers

How do I install osx 4 on my G4?

I will assume you are talking about 10.4. You will probably need to install 10.3 first and then use an upgrade CD to get 10.4 installed. I would not install a system higher than 10.4 on this system.

Some of the start up files have been corrupted or are missing. Start up from the OSX system disc and them run Disc Utilities from the installer toolbar. Check the hard drive for errors. Repair any errors if they are found. If it's not possible for Disc First Aid to repair the hard drive you will need to replace the drive and re-install OSX.

OS 9.2.2 - System is "locked" & I don't know where to start!

Try to remove all traces of the fool proof thing. There is probably a system extension, a control panel, and pref file to throw away but BE CAREFUL, the system could have been set up prior so that Fool Proof has to be disabled through it's control system before you uninstall. I have seen people try to remove the before mentioned elements and it only exacerbates the problem.
Your best be it to track down those system disks and reinstall the OS. You could upgrade the system to 1GHZ system and run at least OSX Tiger on it. Checkout Otherworld Computing for parts (www.macsales.com)
