Recently bought a Maxtor portable 250 GB HDD, need to format it to FAT32 so that my Playstation 3 can recognise it, but Vista will not allow it, can only format it to NTFS and exFAT. How can i format the HDD to FAT32 using Vista?

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps. Before you begin, note that the FAT32 file system has size limitations. In this version of Windows, you cannot create a FAT32 partition greater than 32 gigabytes (GB). In addition, you cannot store a file larger than 4 GB on a FAT32 partition. For more information, see Comparing NTFS and FAT file systems.
Recently bought a Maxtor portable - blank.gif Converting a hard disk partition or volume from NTFS to FAT32 requires that you reformat the partition, which will destroy any data on it. Be sure to back up any data you want to keep before you begin.

Hi!

Two things to do then, either buy a new bigger disk and replace the on on your HP...OR buy an external disk and connect it via the USB.

Just remeber that you need to reinstall everythin on that HP if you replace the disk on it with another one

Good luck

Query regarding maximum capacity of motherboard support for a hard disk

your cpu does not have much to do with the hdd you may be getting...
technically you should have no problem by getting the largest hdd you can afford. what you may want to take into consideration besides your budget is:
what os you're using.. dos, win9x, xp, vista?
a. if you have dos the smaller you can get probably the better as you may not be able to create a large partition. (chances are you may not get anything new smaller than 40 gigs.. and that would be a big waste of money and hard drive room)
b. if you have win9x, your probably using fat32 for your filesystem meaning you may not be able to go above 32 gig when creating your partition and formating your drive.
c. if your using win xp or vista... and your planning on using NTFS when partitioning the drive instead of FAT32...(as you should unless your operating system is on a FAT32 partition) you can go for the largest hdd you can afford.

Go to the seagate website (they bought maxtor) and download the windows version of maxblast. That is if you are using that as a spare. bootable cd rom version if it's not.
