Question about RCA RTD255 System

2 Answers

Locks up I bought this system over a year go, and I am pretty happy for the most part... but it has this glitch, almost like a computer. Sometimes it will lock up, or freeze, when I select DVD/CD function... it will just sit and blink "Reading" forever, and nothing else will work after that. You have either unplug it, or turn the power swith off & on in the outlet to get it to respond again, otherwise it won't respond to anything. I've tried waiting it out as long a six hours before, and it doesn't come out of this "freeze". It seems almost like a processor problem, like it gets too much info, then locks... but I'm not an authority on that. My sister also had this problem. (because I was happy with mine, and had no problems for about 3 1/2 months, so I recommended that she pick one up). Then the problem started. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Locks up

I have not, but it seems you're right on target. If you have alot of electronics, or not enough breathing room, you can "suffocate" the maching/processor with heat, so also keep this in mind.... Good luck, but it seems that this is more of a "glitch" in manufacturing of this unit than a solvable problem!

Look up the program called playon. I have been using it for 3 years and its pretty good. You need at least a high DSL speed, cable modem is great. You also need a decent computer, although I bought a acer notebook from walmart for $250 as a dedicated playon server and it worked well. And finally you need a DNLA compatible player to connect to your tv. Some TVs have this built in if it is able to be put on the home network. PS3 ,360, Wii are all able to fine DNLA servers on the network. Sony made a bluray that was also able to find DNLA servers and that is what I use. However the new PS4 I've read is not DNLA capable, so newer sony bluray may not also. Basically playon collectes videos from free sites and logs them. You pull up the playon server on the TV with whatever device you are using to connect it to the tv. Now just scroll through the all of them until you get what you are looking for, click and it plays.

Will play rental dvd's but won't play store bought dvd's

quite possible that the copyright was over ridden and the laser isn't reading the correct format. most dvd's are written in AVI or MPEG or MOV format. a copyright off the main disk has a protection line in it when the dvd is re-recorded that locks out the disk's contents. a regular recorded dvd plays.

The dvd drawer will not open on Bose 3-2-1 system. When you push the button to open the dvd, the display say ''opening'' but it does not open. There currently is a dvd inside.

That happens when you close the drawer instead of pressing the close button  you can skip gears and it would have to be taken apart and re-calibrated.   Sometimes it is just a glitch that you can over-ride using a straight pin into a small hole on the front  (assuming this uses a drawer).

Runs then turns off says protection

Protection" is an indicator that the unit is locked in protect mode. This may have been triggered by either playing the Samsung unit on too high volume level causing a hardware failure or a systems glitch.

If it were a glitch, a re-initialization of the built-in microprocessor may address the issue (if haven't been tried and only if you would consider. In some instances, re-initialization would result to the unit refusing to function which would confirm a firmware fault and not only a glitch):
  • turn off the power;
  • press and hold the STOP button on the main unit for 5 sconds or more;
  • try the unit;
  • if a no-go, with "NO DISC" displayed;
  • press and hold the STOP button on the main unit for 5 sconds or more;
  • "INITIAL" should be displayed.
The above (if a glitch and not a firmware fault) would force the HT-TX52 unit to revert back to factory defaults. Doing so would remove glitches, errors in settings & configurations, memories, presets and user preferences. As above stated, in some instances, re-initialization would result to the unit refusing to function which would confirm a firmware fault and not only a glitch

Should the above be not corrective, then it would be a hardware fault and options then are:
  • consider a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair if and only if very familiar with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM and a soldering iron/station. Access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram is likewise necessary;
  • should you be uncomfortable with a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of an authorized Samsung Service Center (specially if still under warranty) or a qualified professional.

Can Anyone Help me! I Would like to conect my Sony DAV-S880 Compact AV system to my Hp PC, what is the best option and what cable type do I need to used. Thanks!

Hi there
you can connect this system to your computer in multiple ways. But how you do so depends on what your computer has. If your PC has RCA connections on it then that would be the simplest way but this would leave you with stereo sound. If you have a digital decoder in your computer and a optical out then i would suggest using that. A Optical cable is quite inexpensive and can be bought from pretty much any decent A/V shop.
If you can let me know the model of you PC i can give you exact directions but dont be afraid to play around yourself. I only suggest that you do so carefully.
hope this helps.

Sony SA-VA10

Hi, Have you been able to locate the cable for your Sony speaker system? Thats a shame that they would take just the cable. Anyways, I have the sa-va10 model just like you. I just upgraded to a new sound system. And I have the cable. Tho, I m sure somewhere on the net, like ebay, amazon or even Sony should be able to help you. I would call them. Those speakers are not that old, and maybe Sony still has a ton of those cables in stock. Esp. since the system is only around 14 years old. Relatively thats still pretty new.

Disc Tray Won't Open

I have contacted Venturer Electronics Inc. (which have recently purchased RCA); they are in Toronto, Ontario. They suggested to perform a Manufacturer Reset (as follows); and if it works; system should power up [this means there was a glitch in the software]...(this usually happens when system is plugged into a power bar or surge protector) if not, contact them @ 1-800-721-4007. They honor the manufacturer's (RCA) 1 year warranty... with receipt.

To reset Unit:
Unplug Unit from AC power (other wires can stay connected)
Press the On/Standby button in front of Unit 15 times
Wait 30 minutes
Replug Unit to AC power
Press the On/Standby button to power up unit
Wait couple of minutes for unit to do its thing

**If unit works properly, then ensure not to plug unit into power bar or surge protector, keep plugged into wall.
**If unit will not power up properly, contact them for further instructions.

Hope this is helpful....
My Unit powered up wonderfully and is currenlty working like a charm.
Good luck!
