Sharp R-1500 - Start/Minute Plus Button Inoperable

My R-1500 was installed in 2004 and has worked very well; however, the other day the Start/Minuue Plus button quit operating. The only way I can get the unit to operate is to push a knife gently into the bottom edge of the button opening to start the microwave.

I have the same problem and ordered that part yesterday. This microwave LOOKS great but was not worth the money. My LCD panel has gone out for the second time in 3 years. You will probably have the same problem with that judging from the reviews I am reading. Here is the site where you can order the button assembly. Good luck.

I took it apart and used a spring from a pen, in between the button and the metal part that the button touches to start the microwave. I put the spring just above the raised plastic part of the button.
You will see when you take off the panel. very easy. 3 screws on the vent then one for the panel. then mark the wires and unplug.

Please be careful with the knife - you may damage your keypad.

You can order a new and improved select button assembly for only $15 postpaid here.

We have the full service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it in case you don't have it already.

It will show you how to do the disassembly.

Also at our site, we have a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

By the way commonsenfs, we also regularly repair these control units & displays for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week with a one-year guarantee.

It's much less than buying a new control unit which is bound to fail anyway.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

The start button doesn't always work

The PCOR30S is just a rebranded Sharp model R-1874 microwave.

We have the Sharp service manuals, which will help you in disassembly and troubleshooting, but the part numbers will not match. (see Pros link below)

The manuals are here and here.

If the "Easy Minute" pad is also intermittent, then you probably have a door switch issue and should see these files:

http://031d26d.namesecurehost.com/mwd/safety.txt
http://031d26d.namesecurehost.com/mwd/disassembly.txt
http://031d26d.namesecurehost.com/mwd/doorsw.txt

If the "Easy Minute" pad works well every time, then you have a failing membrane keypad.

The keypad is no longer available as a separate part, so you have to order a new control panel frame which comes with a new keypad already installed.

You can order part number
66679B (formerly 66682B) for just over fifty dollars from the Pros here and they can have it to you in a few days.

I've had mine for approx. 5 years and this year the buttons started to not work. I could only use the One Minute Plus button. This morning nothing worked! I unplugged it, replugged it and still nothing....

On these models, each of the four plastic buttons on the right side of the control panel runs a hidden pad on the membrane keypad.

The other pads on the keypad are fully exposed once you open the door and you just press them directly to operate them.

These plastic button assemblies have been upgraded due to weakness and breakage.

Most often it's the bottom two buttons (Stop/Clear and Start/Minute Plus) that fail.

You can order the button assemblies here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

The service manuals you need to refer to are here and here.

R-209BK Sharp Microwave buttons inoperable

I had this problem too:
it turns out that it (apparently) just needed some 'warm-up' time!

After being plugged in for about 15 to 30 minutes,
the buttons suddenly "came to life"...

Note that when it's flashing 88:88 you are supposed to _start_ with the 'Stop/Clear' button. After that, set the clock (press "Clock", enter the time with the number pad, then press Clock again).

Hope that helps.

Sharp R-1510 Start Button Not Working

This may not solve your problem, but on my Sharp R315J microwave, the little plastic pin that pushes forward on the inside of the start button, had broken off and it wouldn't start. The Minute Plus button would start the microwave, so I knew the microwave worked, so I tried to find a piece of plastic that I could glue into the start button hole, because the part doesn't exist and you have to buy the whole door for $100 plus shipping. Nothing I could find was small enough, so I started looking for a new microwave.
While ouside doing lawn work I noticed a small bird tail feather and the end looked to be the perfect size. I snipped off the pointed end and then up about 3/8" to make a little rod to replace the plastic one that broke. It fit perfectly!!! I didn't even have to glue the inside end, it stays put even after repeated door opens. This is sturdy material and looks to last a long time. When it wears out, I have a cat, there's always a few feathers around. I hope this saves someone else a hundred bucks, like it did me.

Unlocking child lock on the sharp microwave model R316FSC

The Sharp Microwave/Convection oven I have says to touch the Custom Help button, the number "1", then touch the Start Button. To turn off the child lock, press the Stop button.
Or just unplug it, wait 1 minute, and plug in.
