Hello, I have this same problem. The TV was just working fine yesterday and this morning, my image seems like I need 3 D glasses. Can you direct me on how to change the convergence ICs if this is the case. Also where can I find those ?

I have a Sony KP-46WT500 (rear projection TV) and the screen is getting distorted in the upper left hand conner and it seem as if the colors are not mixing properly. The outer edges look a little streached and some spots certain colors stand out more than other, especialy green.

looks like I need 3-D glasses. Colors are seperated.

Solution:

Your TV has a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section.

Try to adjust the convergence.

You should be able to move the cross up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from www.TvRepairKits.com. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.

Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Why don't you just get a new "D" board, unhook the wires of the old board and hook them up to the new one. Done with no soldering

you still may have to do a little conv. on the tv, at least thats what I'm doing

You need to replace the Convergance ICs STK 392-560(2 of them) in the "D Board".
If you are not a electronic handy man, get assistance from a TV repair tech. This involves de-soldering the IC and soldering back without damaging anything else in the PCB. The ICs are mounted in a heat sink and would require some heat transfer compound to fix it back again. Without the compound, the IC may fail prematurely.
Word of caution :- You are dealing with very high voltage components inside the TV and should be careful before you attempt to repair anything inside the RPTV.

Picture is bowed inward and looks like a 3d image without the glasses. I also have a green, red, and blue line curving across the top of the picture.

Looks like the focusing lens may have moved a bit or the projector lamp has gone weak. Get a technician to check up the projector.

There's very little you can do here.

The picture is wavy with the image looking like 3D when you aren't wearing 3d glasses.

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.

Samsung HCN4226W "image pinching"

The convergence IC has gone out and is located on the Main bd or the Power supply bd depending on the specific model and must be replaced and a Full convergence alignment must be performed to return your tv to a watchable condition. Only a Samsung trained tech can do this.

your convergence has gone out....there is possibley two ic chips that have failed. It might be some fuses but generally if they go the chips are the cause. on average a 300 dollar repair with parts and labor. first try to autoconverge the set if that dont work it will be the chips

red convergence went haywire... you need to relace I'm thinking two convergence ICs mounted on heatsink on convergence panel. replace both for usually they both blow replace any burnt resitors too, and hardest of all now you need to reconverge the whole thing.....which is a fine art.....u might be able to do it with the remote ...but u need a manual to go throught the steps really ..but not me i do em in my sleep. take it to shop unless your technical.
