I am using this ASUS (asus M2N-MX nvidia mcp61p chipset

According to the manufacturer's web-site:

http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=0pKBwEIE8tqMT4j7

this motherboard has 4 x DIMM sockets,
supporting a maximum of 4 GB
of DDR2 800/667/533/ Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

and supports Dual Channel memory architecture.

So, add one 512MB DDR2 533 Mhz RAM into one of the slots,
being sure to leave *ONE* *EMPTY* slot between the two sticks,
in order to enable the high-performance "dual-channel" option.

Try your computer -- it should feel faster.

If you still think that need more RAM, buy two 512MB (or two 1024MB) DDR2 533 Mhz RAM, putting the 2 sticks into the two empty slots.

No video output. what video cards are compatible?

Hello,

Your MB takes a PCI Express x16 (max. 2GB/s, x4 mode) video card.

Please note the warning in your manual on Page 1-22 about using "Qualified" graphics cards. Here is a link to your manual:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5GL-MX/e2222_p5gl-mx.pdf

If you are not getting video, have you tried to reinstall the VGA driver? Just a thought. You can get it by typing your model number into the search box on the Asus support site.(Just use P5GL-MX.)

Memory Issues with P5GL - MX

Some motherboards require that you install the memory in matched pairs. That could explain why they won't work together.

When you put the 1 GB in alone, what slot did you put it in?
I would suggest the blue A1 slot (closest to the CPU).

It may be that you have a bad memory module.
You could try the Windows Memory Diagnostic:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
