Question about PC Desktops

2 Answers

I have a Dell Latitude C640. There is an intermittent fault where the screen flickers, normally top half and bottom half seperately. Reminds me of when the vertical hold used to play up on the TV. Do you know which part(s) are likely to be at fault please? Mike

Could also be the LCD connection or the inverter.

Dell Inspiron 2350 All-in-One Desktop PC Fault Flickering Touch Screen

It could be 1 of 2 things, either your monitor is going out on you, or your graphics adapter is going bad. Depending on how long ago you purchased it, and from whom, I would contact Dell service to find out if they can return it, or give you any suggestion.

How can i use my web cam

Your Dell Latitude E6400 laptop comes with a built-in webcam at the top of the LCD screen. This camera can take still pictures and record video for use with video messaging. You can access the camera via a software program already installed on the computer. This program can be accessed right from the desktop screen.

1.Turn on your Dell Latitude and click on the "Start" tab on the main desktop screen. A list of options will appear in a drop-down window.
2.Click "Dell Webcam" from the list of options in the window.
3.Click on "Dell Webcam Center" and the program will open. A capture window will appear on screen. Beneath the capture window will be a control panel.
4.Click on the camera icon to take a still photo.
5.Click on the "Record" button to record video with the webcam.
I hope you find it helpful. Best regards.

Hello there hopefully you are reading this on your laptop, the right way up that is.

What you need to do is to use the NVIDIA control panel to rotate the screen.

See my published guide entitled How to Rotate My Desktop Display!!! It's on it's side!!!

Take care!

Dell E6400 Monitor Flickers and laptops heats up fast.

The overheating is caused by:
  1. Clogged heat exchanger
  2. Slow or failing fan
  3. Poor contact with heatsink and processor
If under warranty, contact tech support for repairs (800)624-9896 USA
If not under warranty, try clearing the heatsink via canned compressed air, you should be able to access it easily after removing the bottom cover. If no help. try arctic silver heat transfer compound between the heatsink and the processor. If the fan fails diagnostics, replace the fan (easy to get on ebay)
For the flicker, try reseating the video cable to the motherboard

Reset dell computer back to factory settings

What you need to do is restart your computer. Your computer will run its system checks and then it will go to a black screen with a blue banner on top saying dell. (the banner is only about a half an inch wide) Quickly hold Ctrl and press F9. your computer will go to a different screen and will give you and option to restore you computer. click this option and follow the steps.
NOTE once factory reset you will lose all information and settings so save everything you want to keep on seperate disks. hope this helps.

If you go to control panel/system/hardware/device manager. You can roll back to your previous driver. Unless of course it wasn't working then either. In that case disregard this solution : )
