* Clean up spills soon after they occur. Some acidic foods, such as tomato products, can damage the surface of the cooktop or interior of the oven.

* Loosen cooked-on gunk with water or baking soda and water; do not use abrasive materials, which can scratch surfaces.
* Keep the reflector bowls of gas burners clean; it's not only more pleasing to look at, but the shiny surface makes cooking more efficient.

* Wash burner controls and other knobs with warm water and detergent. Some knobs have markings that can come off, so take care not to soak or scrub them too much.

* Clean gas burners and grates thoroughly.

* Use commercial oven cleaners very cautiously because they are highly toxic. Follow instructions carefully. As an alternative, fill a glass bowl with half a cup of ammonia and let it stand in the oven overnight. Wipe the walls clean with paper towels or newspapers.

When using the self-cleaning feature on your oven, the temperature
within the oven rises to an extremely high temperature, usually around
1000 degrees. The oven will remain at this temperature for a set period
of time, often from 1 to 3 hours.

    Self-cleaning ovens differ from
traditional ovens in that they require a timer to control the amount of
time that the self-cleaning feature operates. They also require extra
thermostatic controls to control the extremely high temperatures.

    While the mechanisms inside a
self-cleaning oven are quite complex, the concept behind a
self-cleaning oven is fairly straight forward. The extremely high
temperatures incinerate dirt and debris from your oven, thus cleaning
    it for future use.

Safety is very important when using your
self-cleaning feature. You must ensure that the oven door is completely
closed while the self-cleaning cycle is running. 1000 degree
temperatures are obviously extremely dangerous. Self-cleaning ovens
will come equipped with a secure oven door latch for this reason.

The crucial door locking system is
initially engaged to signal that you are ready to use the self-cleaning
feature. When the oven reaches a certain temperature, the door lock
system will ensure that the oven door cannot be opened until the cycle
is complete and the temperature has returned to a manageable level.
The result is a clean oven without the use of harsh oven cleaners or
    abrasives.

REMEMBER YOU ARE WORKING WITH 220 VOLTS - USE EXTREME CAUTION!!!

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.
Go to this site:
http://www.maytag.com/support/manuals_literature.jsp
Enter your model number CWE5800A
It will ask you what kind of visitor you are... enter that in the drop down menu (Consumer)
There ae 9 manuals for this unit... the alpha letters after 5800 of your model number are what will determine which manual you down load.

The first manual for model CWE5800ACB is here:
http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%20W10169639.pdf

Self clean steps are on page 9 of the manual. Make sure you read the steps "Before Self-Cleaning" It will tell you to remove the racks and some other important steps.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,

I have a Kenmore Gas Oven, model # 911.30465864 and have lost the manual. I want to clean the oven, (it has self cleaning feature), but I am not sure if I can use oven cleaners in Gas Oven or not. Can...

Just use some easy off and do not use the self clean feature. Clean it the old fashioned way. Self clean ruins expensive electronics.

I have an electric Maytag stove/oven but don't know how to use the self cleaning feature. What do I do?

Dear cooper1914,

There are two types of Ovens that clean themselves.
1) A Self-Cleaning Oven which usually gets locked 1st then set on Self-Clean.
2) A Continuous-Cleaning Oven which is constantly cleaning

Some people prefer the old fashion clean by hand with degreasers but I prefer Self-Clean or Continuous-Clean as there is no need for harsh potent cleaners!

If you have a Self-Cleaning or Continuous-Clean Oven Do Not Clean With Cleaners as it will ruin the flavor of your oven!
